Sad truth?
Originally, refrigerators (and freezers), had handles you had to pull to open, and when you closed the door, had to make sure 'Latched' to ensure they didn't leak the cold air.
Kids used to climb into them, and either they or someone on the outside, would close and latch the door (Playing 'Hide-and-seek,' or just being kids, fooling around). Many children suffocated inside the things, which is why every refrigerator sold (in 'Murica at least), cannot be 'Latched' closed. You can easily open them from inside.
Had a cousin die this way. I never knew him, but all of us heard about it.

At least fridges and freezers use magnetic strips nowadays, where it seals but can be opened easily with quite little force from the inside

MemberI heard that time machine in Back To The Future had to be originally refrigerator, but due to same problem they rather went for car.
