Necrons, as their name implies, are basically sci-fi's answer to a fantasy setting's undead.
They're once-alive ancient aliens who had their souls transferred into metal bodies only for most of them to be devoured by Star Gods.

Context in mind, yes, you're right. In fact, looking up videos on youtube shows them holding these things like how undead usually hold massive axes and swords: kind of slowly, lazily dragging/motioning to the left and right as they level and fire.
