In my opinion, you pretty much answered your own question: It's popular because it is generic (amongst other things), if you check whisperfoot's artworks, most of them depicts popular characters, in an objectively above average artstyle. Sure, there is nothing "exotic" in most cases but the simple things reaches the most people. The most liked artworks on this site are surprisingly "bland"; you won't see vore or scat being popular, not because it's bad, but because most People are not into it.
