Also I don't get why Nazism took off as a fantasy but not Communists considerimg most people see them as very similar things/people.

Some people like the Stalin/Mao/Che Guevara aesthetic, just like how some people like the Nazi aesthetic. But regarding the people who actually go past the aesthetic into the ideology itself, Nazism is more populistic than communism, and the things it teaches are easier to understand.

CORRECTION! Both are populist but Communism is more populist than Nazism but was never achieved because your country has to go through a long duration of time with socialism. In other words, socialism is the eventual gateway to Communism. The best example was the USSR but the American government and military knew it was better and would make every American wake up had the USSR continued to be a country as it would've surpassed America by the early 2000s.

They not only started what we know as the Cold War but also put sanctions and other methods of sabotage on the USSR and it's allies.

the best example is the mondragon corporation, not the ussr. having an oligarchic state become the new employer doesn't get rid of the employer/employee relationship. and by what measure would the soviet union have surpassed america?

I think for something to be considered populist nowadays, it can't have too many ideas that require a complex understanding of difficult concepts like class and historical materialism. Nazism is easy to digest and perceived by its followers and tacit sympathizers as anti-elitist, while most Nazis or Nazi-adjacent people view communism as its own kind of academic elitism that has the goal of corrupting people's minds.
