There was one episode back in like the first season where a trainer had his Sandshrew repeatedly jumping in and out of a swimming pool to build up a tolerance for water attacks.

Which in hindsight, makes me think that merely coming into physical contact with water is somehow painful to Fire and Ground type pokemon?
