ya know I saw this on pixiv this morning, and I still don't understand what's animated about it.

Ive checked if this thing has frames like an animation or is a webm and its neither so im just gonna...

APNG is compatible with most browsers, except for Internet Explorer. So I guess that's what you're using.

So the thinking process of seeing this Ugoira, first was to just make it a gif because how simple it is. However it seemed like artist uploaded them as individual images rather than gif, so that would mean that there would be quality decrease as gif couldn't handle all the colors. Uploading individual frame would've preserved the artwork, but not the blinking.

Next idea was to then simply use WebM, but in this case the visible seekbar would've pretty much ruined the surprise that artist had created with original Ugoira. Still viable option and still better than gif would be.

Then, the most evil of the evil ideas. Using APNG would preserve the artwork and wouldn't ruin the surprise. On top of that, browsers which aren't supporting the format will show first frame, so the artwork itself is preserved and viewable by all on top of leaving the user confused with the animated tag thanks to low usage and compatibility of the format.

Preserving artists original intention is almost as important as the preservation of artwork.

I like this a lot, I just wish the ears were a little bit bigger, they don't quite fit her head in proportion.
