I doubt that's true... especially as when watched closely, many mammals have been known to masturbate occasionally. Males will often want to mate in many species at any time, their urges just get a lot stronger when the females are receptive and giving off the scent of being in heat. I know this occurs in mice, horses, and goats... I don't know if it applies to deer or dogs however, though it wouldn't surprise me.

Deer species are some of the handful of pump chumps of the animal world. Many times it's one and done. They get in there, unload, and get out. It is effective. Especially if ther happens to be an emergency and they have to book it.

Imagine getting into it, then going at it for a few minutes, just to have a predator start running for your herd. Then it's after you and your parner because you had tontwke the time, even just a few seconds, to untangle and run. A few seconds can be the difference between life or death.

Or having to run from a predator while still coming down from a 28 second orgasm. They need to do it quickly and efficiently.
