As much as I enjoy the artwork around these girls, I can't wrap my head around the fact that such impossibly minor characters that had only a few minutes of screentime in one episode, and no voice lines whatsoever, became so popular with the fandom.

I wish they retained their popularity longer. After the initial rush of artwork, the flow of new art stagnated badly. I see maybe one new image of them every few weeks, or longer.
Am I just not looking in the right places?
