We've seen that she can sort of "merge" with people before, back with the dragon. My money is on she accidentally merges with him in some fashion, in a permanent way. That's where she gets the black coloring from.

My mind has been going on what can go wrong, wall of text warning:

1: she finally feels loved and accepted but then overhears Baren talking about giving the freak a pity fuck. He seems into it but if confronted tries to play it off that way out of embarrassment.

2: the drugs from page 4-20 are like a roofy. The last several pages that have been going on only in her mind as a coping mechanism.

3: Feretta is telling the truth and there are no bad intentions and she is having the time of her young life and we are all just terrible distrustful people who refuse to believe something good can happen to Fen.

4: I actually like the previous comment by nenten, that her at this point unknown magical abilities misfire and she accidentally kills or maims the first person besides her mother to show her affection. Makes it like extra tragic if she can blame herself for it.

Yeah I think from Fen's traumatic past and anger issues I am certain that would be too much to ask for. She wouldn't act this way if she had nice things happen to her as well or had anyone left like him who really loved her. But as it seems that her life has been a mess for a long time now.
