In reality, widespread persecution of homosexuals didn't really become the norm until the Renaissance, and in the Dark Ages most people would just let folks do what they like. There were obviously instances of it, but many cases of burnings at the stake for sodomy were when the accused was facing charges of another crime already.

And if they happen to live in say China or Japan, they would be viewed as equals in society, as taboos against homosexuality really only started to crop up after Christian missionaries had begun preaching in East Asia.
