    Dear, Spitfire.
How can you eat popcorn with hooves?
    Sincerely, Nathan.

Every Pony has Magic in them, it only emits to the outside Through End Points, like Hooves, Wings and Horns.
Horns are just Massive Amplifiers for Magic, which allows them to do Speels 'n Shit.
whihc Hooves are much weaker but still have a Magical Aura... which allows them to "Grab" Stuff.

I just made this Up while Writing.
but it'll be my Head Cannon for this now.
and yes i know, Following that Logic, a Dick of a Pony would be Slightly Magical too.

In Case you don't care, here is a Picture of Space from a More Interesting Version of No Man's Sky.

  • in case anyone wonders.
that Picture is from the "Game" Space Engine.
which is basically a Simulator for Space.
it Generates an Infinite amount of Stars, Planets and Other Celestial Bodies. and Tries to Simulate Time and Physics as close to Reality as Possible.

it is Free to Play and a Good way to See if you have a Good Computer... because my Old PC Burned when Trying to run this Game.

The most simpliest explaination is usually the correct one - which is what I usually follow

Basically I just put it down to the writers initially made MLP for kids, so didn't put any effort or thought into physics.
I just think the writers made it so hoofs work to pick stuff up, JUST because they did that.
Its everyone else that tries to applies physics
(somewhat expecting hate for this one, let at least a few downvotes)

Everyone knows that it makes no Sense.
That is why it is so Fun to think about a Explanation for it! :D

I really like your explanation, especially because it works well with the canon that all ponies inherently have some degree of magic in them (and because of the penis thing - that's awesome). It even goes with the idea of earth ponies tending to have greater physical strength because the legs and hooves would be the primary end points for their magic.

Personally though, my favorite explanation is that their hooves work through granular jamming, because it adds a degree of plausibility to a fantastical world. The principle is demonstrated here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OjhoVuAQkQ

but how is she letting it go?

also, that would be a Boring anwser that doesn't Require Thinking...

That wasn´t supposed to be a serious explanation.
