His style most definitely isn't karate. Karate is more straightforward with its kicks and punches, whereas kung fu (which is definitely what Lucario's fighting style is based on) is far more flowing- and his attacks in both anime and in Smash are based on kung-fu attacks.

i do indeed "see what you did there" but dont find it funny really. Like calling Link "Hero of elves". it kinda makes sense in its own context (Link being called various hero names) but that doesnt make it funny

I've heard of that bing refered to as the friendly opening-taunt. Typically not mean-spirited, but rather ment as a friendly gesture meaning "Win or lose, let's have fun" or something like that. It's also seen a lot in "ditto" matches to show kinship.
