This arc sees artist Floyd Gottfredson take full creative control of the Mickey Mouse newspaper comic, although Walt Disney does still make suggestions, the most notable of which is a mini-arc based on a then-popular vaudeville routine, in which Mickey attempts to commit suicide but continually fails to do so.
This arc features Minnie's parents and introduces a recurring supporting character, Butch, a roughneck who would go on to reform and become a friend of Mickey's in future comics.
