There's nothing wrong with creating similar variants to the gun. Makes it easier for soldiers to field strip/clean the gun if it has the same basic takedown.

A Ruger .22
It has a grip designed to mimic the 1911 .45
Makes a great training gun, and the low kick and inexpensive ammo compared to larger calibers makes it nice to take to the range.
I can get a brick of 525 rounds for around $20
The ruger is an impressive weapon coz of its wide user range and low recoil, I did mention that I'm in SA army, my job is a G5 artillery gun operator

That's why I keep mine at home.
Home defense is the most likely scenario where using one for self defense is possible/helpful.
And it's a nice target pistol to take to the range for an hour or two on a weekend.
I couldn't have put it better. ^_^
Since we are at showing off our guns now, I think i'll SORTA jump on the bandwagon.
As said, finds are illegal by notes, but if you possessed a license and a gun prior to that regulation you made keep it, if it's either taken apart or locked up, using it for self defense isn't allowed tho, therefore, you can still buy one, if you are VERY careful, no mortal man is allowed to make a fun license anymore tho...
anyway, I was too young to skip through that loophole back then, but two of my friends weren't, so while not actually possessing a gun I do have experience with the following:
Walther p99
HK p8
Some pistol by Sig, forgot the model
The FN 5-7, a gun I absolutely LOVE, even though, or maybe precisely because it handles like a toy, and, hold your horses, a SVD! :D
I can count myself EXTREMELY lucky, though, given the circumstance.

I've held one of those at a gun show with the built on scope, I personally didn't like it because it was too bulky in my opinion. It was cool and all but I personally think they're kind of ugly, too toyish looking for me.
But the p90 actually feels fucking fantastic, sexy little gun.

You sure that's legal?
Or an actual Dragunov rifle?
There's an import-production model, and a Romanian rifle called the PSL that looks almost exactly the same but uses different parts - like, the receiver is closer to an RPK, not a SVD.
I'd like to see yours to confirm it - so you don't accidentally have something illegal, or something that makes itself hard to repair without your realizing.

That p90is really an awesome gun, I like the fact that the blowback system is in front lessening recoil, but its best feature is the fact that its magazine was built as part of the gun, no patrs sticking out making it more maneuverable

AS Said. They're not mine. At the time where that law has been bright up I wasn.t even sixteen, iirc.... The APPARENT SVD belonged to the same guy who had the 5-7, a pretty dumb but pretty rich fella, and it has been a while since I saw him the least time, sho, I honestly don't know, now that you say something like that, it might be that it wasn't an actual dragunov but a derivate.
What I can say 100% though is, that it was NOT an rpk, I can't look up pics because I am on a phone, but I an petty sure that the stock or butt were completely different, and the barrel was really long. but that might just be my impression.... I remember laughing at how the magazine was oddly fat and unhandy for a rifle magazine, too....
Take your best shot from the info I managed to scratch up, but I wbm going to assume that he was either ignorant about it's actual model or actually possessed an illegal gun. Then again, how do you wanna know that it is illegal? I told you how weird the laws on guns are in these parts. :p

It likely wasn't - last that I remember, SVD rifles weren't allowed as American imports in their standard condition; you had to get modified variants or "look-alikes," IF I remember correctly.

Nonono, you misread me; PSL rifles are "lookalikes," but operate differently. Their BODY uses RPK-style parts, like the receiver and such.
When you get the chance, look at its magazines and tell me how those are patterned, and I can confirm/deny that it's a PSL from that much.

What you did there. I see it.

Mostly because I remember some Russogunfags I know getting largely excited when certain restrictions were lessened/removed on the imports of these rifles. I dunno when your friend got his rifle, but hey.

....hum, As much as i would love to, We moved twice since I met him, but i still remember his name, so, who knows? ;)
ANYWAY
As said, I remember the magizine the most of all, since it made me laugh, and I remember it looking kinda... furrowed... it looked a bit like a waffle, hehe.
What you did there. I see it.
Good, I almost got irked pointing it out just to play it safe. ;)
I dunno when your friend got his rifle, but hey.
I would prefer calling him just "pal", but anyway, that weird gun law was made rather ealry, and i didn't know him at that time, so he, or rather his father -BTW a russian immigrant, who also brought along crazy stuff like an empty tank grenade shell- has most certainly gotten it pre-millenium.

From that alone, I can at least tell you it's not using Romanian magazines made for PSL rifles. That is indicative of Russian or Chinese magazines.
It could be a Chinese Type 85 (?) reproduction, or any number of reproduction models. Now if you tell me what ammunition it takes, and if it's been modified, I can tell you what it is.

Nah, I sure as hell won't remember that. But, yeah, it might eb what you said. The recoil was still as real and hard as I always heard stories of. I eman, of course, for a regular civilian.

I just want an AK-74M or newer equivalent that uses 5.45 rounds, and an AKM or newer equivalent that uses 7.62 rounds. I also want 2 Desert Eagle Mark XIX handguns chambered for .50AE rounds, and 2 handguns that fire smaller rounds, preferably 9mm or FN 5.7×28mm . After I have those, I don't think i'll ever care about buying guns again.

Desert Eagles are amazingly expensive, as are Five-seveNs.
I have no idea why you'd want any of those - but I guess there's no accounting for taste.

I recently traded my saiga 12 for a browning BPS bottom eject 12 gauge and a tokarev pistol in 9mm. I am pleased with both guns :3
also if you're looking for a good pistol I'd recommend a Sig Sauer 2022. It's about 400 bucks new and I love mine.
EDIT OMG: Desert eagles aren't THAT expensive compared to some guns. A high end AR15 costs over 1,000. Plus if you want nice optics or a different upper receiver it can get spendy.
There's a gold plated Deagle on gunbroker for less than $2000 now, not cheap but it's not like he can't ever save up that much money. :P

The Destert Eagle is a beautiful handgun, and the Five-Seven is practical with it's large mag size, good accuracy, and low recoil. The only problem is that Five-Seven ammo is a little expensive, and it's not like they sell it at K-Mart.

That's why I prefer a .22
Good accuracy, low recoil, and the bullets are cheap and easy to find.
I usually pay less than 5 cents a bullet.

An FN five-seven would be neat, the ammo 5.7 x 28 would be pretty hard to find unless you bought it online. But lately the most common ammo in stores is gone because of paranoia about gun laws being changed.
Calibers like 9mm, .22, .223, .40 are all pretty hard to find for now.
I've seen some .45 acp at some places though, 12 gauge is still plentiful as well. Heck, about 2 years ago you could get 550 rounds of .22 for about 15 dollars.

I got a box of 525 rounds of 22 LR for 19.99 about 6 months ago.
It's gone up a bit due to panic, but will go back down before long.
It's very quick and cheap to make, just had a bit of a surprise increase in demand.
Other ammo tends to be less stable price-wise.

You forget how accurate and reliable the Deagle is in addition to its style. And I bet you probably think that abominable AK-12 looks cool, don't you?

I could be wrong but I think the Deagle was meant to be an anti material pistol, capable of disabling vehicles at a road block. I'd like to have one one day just because it's such an iconic gun.
I know I'm a super gunfag but you can't tell me this doesn't look nice.

I'm curious - why is the 2022 so much cheaper than the P228? The P228 is over $1,000 as well - more than twice the price of the 2022!

What? As for "style," I didn't think "4 pound block of metal" was a stylish decision. But hey, as stated before - there's no accounting for taste. But if you get one, enjoy cleaning it. A lot.

The Deagle is more reliable than people think. The only valid complaint i've really seen is how it jams every now and then. Deagles only jam when people limp wrist and let the Deagle roll back. If people stopped trying to shoot it like a Glock, there wouldn't be any problems. And giving the gun a light cleaning every day isn't a problem, since I wouldn't be shooting it every day.

The sig 2022 is in the sig pro series, they developed a polymer frame for the pistols. Im not an expert so for some reason they're much cheaper than other sigs, but the army and the french police use the sig 2022.
I've put around 600 rounds through mine and with regular cleaning it hasn't jammed or misfired even once so I'd definitely recommend it. For a 400 dollar gun I can't imagine anything better besides a used glock.
Lots of stores carry the 2022 so you can ask to hold it to see if it feels right for you. It's good for home defense but if you're planning on getting a concealed carry license the sig is a little bulky. I'd go for a S&W shield for a ccw.
