Topic: Tag Alias: grumpy_cat -> tard

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

This is a whole new level of "who really cares" for an alias

Updated by anonymous

I disagree with this alias. The cat's name is Tard but the cat's meme name is grumpy cat. When people see grumpy cat on this site, they aren't going to tag it as Tard

Aliasing grumpy_cat -> tard.

Reason: The cat is named Tard. I'd be open to the alias being switched as well, we should just pick one name and stick with it.

You are wrong on this.

Grumpy_Cat's real name is Tardar_Sauce

Also the cat's meme name is grumpy cat. When people want to look for grumpy cat, they will type grumpy_cat. However grumpy cat's real name is Tardar Sauce, but not everyone knows this due to the meme.

We should alias Grumpy_Cat and Tardar_Sauce together.

I might alias tard and tardar_sauce to grumpy_cat or the other way around, not sure yet.

True people searching for grumpy_cat will get it either way, but I'm not sure if I want the correct or best known tag on the posts themselves

Best known tag is generally makes better searching.

that would be Grumpy_Cat being the most well known, and Tardar_Sauce as the real but lesser known name of this cat that spawned a huge grumpy cat meme

The cat's name is Tardar Sauce but the owner calls him Tard. And since people apparently can't read past 'Tag Alias: grumpy_cat -> tard' without having a total mental meltdown and rolling their face on their keyboard in a reply, I'll quote what I said later on in my OP:

I don't give a shit what tag we go with, we just shouldn't have a bunch of tags for the same thing.

The owner actually calls her Grumpy Cat sometimes, and other times Tardar Sauce. Tardar Sauce is her name. So you are again wrong, the cat's name is Tardar Sauce but most know her as Grumpy Cat

It doesn't fucking matter what the owner calls it. Let's just pick a tag and stick with it. Stop trying to derail the thread by attempting to point out that I'm 'wrong' at every possible opportunity, I don't care.

Are you trolling? It matters what the owner calls the cat, as its the cats name. I am pointing out the correct tag names grumpy_cat and Tardar_sauce are both correct, but Tardar sauce is her real name.

It matters a lot, as if you are going to tag someone in a image, you must have there name or title to tag them by, not a made up one you came up with on the fly.

Tard is an acceptable name for the cat, it's been called Tard for longer than its been called Grumpy Cat. It doesn't change the fact that it doesn't matter what we call it so long as we're not having tag bloat with it. Stop dragging the thread off topic or get out, because you're not doing anything to help.

I didn't have clue one it was called anything but Grumpy Cat, and the first thing I thought when I saw this thread's title is "some shmuck is trying to be funny, saying that grumpy cat is a retard". I'm 33, by the way, so I've been around.

I recommend aliasing/implicating/whatevering it to grumpy cat.

I can't tell if ya'll are meaning to actually spell out "Tartar_Sauce" or if you're purposefully misspelling it to make it fit with "Tard"

The name is spelled Tardar Sauce on the wiki and the youtube videos of her, I think its pronounced with a d instead of a t. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47MkvpTrEgU That even says its with a d instead of a t.

The cat's given name is Tardar Sauce, and her nickname is Grumpy Cat

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumpy_Cat

We usually tag characters' full, given names, not their nicknames

Do what you all want with that information

Then I suggest we keep the tag Grumpy Cat as its her famous name and even the owner does call her that sometimes.

Yeah, and my parents sometimes call me "Asshole."
I'd rather they not use that as my standard moniker.

When a nickanme is overly used it becomes their main name. Also....people who want to look up that cat would look up grumpy cat as its more widely known.

That's the point of an alias. When they search for one thing, they still get those results but with a different tag.

If you go by that, then this alias is unnecessary. Honestly dude, if a new user who just find out who grumpy cat is, and then finds an image of grump cat but sees that it's tagged "tard", the user would think it might be short for "retard" and would try to remove the tag. Since the tag is aliased but the user doesn't know that it is, the user would get mad and propose "Tag Alias: tard to grumpy_cat" and so on. In summary, this alias would create problems in the future.

That proposed alias is grumpy_cat -> tardar_sauce

I'm okay with this. I just wish people would stop fixating on the wrong thing in this thread and understand that at the end of the day, I don't much care which name we go with so long as we pick one and properly alias the others to avoid confusion and tag bloat.

Then that seems to be what should be done, unless anyone can find any problems with this

Rather than bring it up in the Skrillex thread, I shall here: Alias should be reversed, as while the cat's name is Tardar Sauce, it is far more well known and referred to as 'Grumpy Cat'. It is the equivilent of a moniker or stage name, much as we don't tag artists' real names but instead by the nom de guerre they prefer to go by or are most well known as, so should we name Tardar Sauce/Grumpy Cat.

Yeah, my stance is still exactly the same, but this time I really am thinking towards the more common term

does it really matter? I hear her called tard, tarder sauce, and grumpy cat equally. As long as we are using one name it doesn't matter which one it is.

It does not matter, at all.
After all, tagging as any of the above, or searching for any of the above results in the same end result if the aliases are properly made.

If we aliased them all the "fuck_this_asshole_cat" it still wouldn't hurt anything really.

Aside from people's feelings at calling the cat an asshole.

It doesn't really matter that much except for the rare instances of a few pages not taking the alias

To be honest, I wasn't trying to spark up this old discussion again. I was just saying that I don't like the alias :I

I woulda argued it if I was here when it was originally started.

Like I said in the other thread: I think the more common name should be the preferred one. This is like tagging Mr. T as Laurence Tureaud..

I'm sure that some users have tried adding grumpy_cat to those images, simply because they didn't realize it was already tagged.
