Topic: Tagging sub-species

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

So if you have a sub-species of another species, how do you tag it? For example, the sub-species "Prynter" is a combination of a Splynter and a Protogen. Does it get tagged as Prynter, or does it get tagged as Prynter, Splynter and Protogen?

And what about ones that aren't a sub-species, but hold a lot of traits of another species? Like a Splynter with multiple canine traits, would it be tagged Splynter? Or would it be tagged Splynter and canine?

Prynter should implicate splynter, protogen, and hybrid if it is a combination of those species. That being said there is currently only one post with the prynter tag so maybe that tag isn't super necessary? You could probably replace it with splynter, protogen, and hybrid.

If a member of the splynter species visually resembles a canine it should have the canine tag as well.

We typically don't allow dedicated tags for hybrids* (see: the hundreds of tags that have been aliased away to hybrid, like folf or dracoon), so 'prynter' should not be a tag and that post should instead just be tagged with splynter, protogen, and hybrid.

*the exception is hybrids that actually exist irl, like mules or ligers.

The most important question is whether the subspecies is actually established (see tag group:original species) and is not simply a made-up name that merges two species tags together.

For example, if someone made an OC that is a hybrid of a fox and a wolf and decide to simply call it a folf for fun, then it should be aliased away to hybrid.
On the other hand, if it is an established species variant or subspecies, then it can stay as their own tag AFAIK (e.g., mamagen).

As to the question of tagging, if it is a simple hybrid between the two species and is not some established variant/subspecies, then just tag it as splynter protogen hybrid (optionally, with canine if features permit).
Otherwise, if it is an established variant/species, then simply tag it as prynter would suffice. Any lore related material (like how they are a "hybrid") can be included in the species wiki.
