Topic: Platinum blonde implications

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

posts of the platinum blonde are either just generic blonde hair or seem to appear lighter, greyish, or white which preferably be tagged light_hair, grey_hair or white_hair. better off deprecating these tags

The platinum blonde hair tag seems like a bit of a mess to me. There's examples like
post #3105258
that's more of a bleached blonde color (even tagged blonde_hair)
that's more of a dirty blonde color
post #2715677
which is a light purple or pink
post #5767140
which is a light green or teal
post #3092478
which is light gray, silver, or white, and
post #2134598
which is just gray. Even if "platinum blonde" may be a valid hair color, it seems there's wide disagreement on what the color is.

Some days I wonder if we shouldn't just chuck blonde_hair out the window entirely and just go with yellow_hair, white_hair, tan_hair, whatever. It would be much simpler to tag the color than try to figure out what qualifies as platinum_blonde, regular blonde, or any other blonde. But I know people would blow a gasket over that. :\

Oh, uh, I actually added the platinum_blonde tag on that post. I thought that "bleached" color is platinum blonde? Is it not?

The others are definitely not platinum blonde, and I don't know why they were tagged as such. It may be a consequence of not having light_<color> tags, but we definitely should not have those. I would have just tagged them "pink" and "teal".

It would be more consistent with the established color tags, but I do think blonde is a distinct color from yellow. When I use the "yellow" tags I think egg-yolk yellow, but blonde is more of a light golden color. Of course, there is sandy blonde, which could probably be described as "tan hair"...

I have no idea, honestly. I think this is the first time I've heard of "platinum blonde", or I've heard it so rarely I don't remember. Going by the name, I probably would've associated it with a color similar to that, a very light, silvery blonde (a mix of platinum and blonde). But seeing all these examples where it ranges from a more normal blonde/dirty blonde color, to plain white/gray, darker gray, even pink/purple, and green, I don't know what it's supposed to be and it seems some other people don't either.
