Topic: Hypocrisy regarding artistic standards

Posted under General

I've posted some artwork of mine on this site, 4 of them have been deleted due to "not meeting the minimum artistic requirements". This caused me to stop posting on the site for a bit because of the discouragement I felt. But I've come back because of a post I discovered and also personal events in my life. The personal events aren't important, but this post is: https://e621.net/posts/3164552?q=sssonic2+knuckles_the_echidna
This is a post where not only does it contain no shading or extra detail aside from plain colors, but it's also traced. All of my works have been completely original and have had shadows or shines to them. Four goddamn posts of mine were taken down because it wasn't deemed quality enough, and yet whoever traced over the OG image to make this gets to stay up. (For the record: the OG image that the post linked belongs to Sssonic2, but the linked post is a third party edit not made by Sssonic2 despite the post saying he's the artist. What I'm saying is that I'm not calling out Sssonic2, but just whoever made the linked post, just to clear up any confusion.) Now, I have two options I want to present, and one of those two options is going to happen just to make it fair, because right now, it just isn't fair.

Option 1: If you want the linked post to stay up for whatever reason, you need to bring back AT LEAST the Baku Buns post since it's my more recent work. While it would be nice to have all 4 of them back, I know beggars can't really be choosers.

Option 2: You take down the linked post, just like with my posts to keep things fair.

Neither of these should be hard requests. I refuse to let this apparent double standard slide, and I will be satisfied with either option. So please do either one.

Making demands of site staff isn't a great way to get in their good graces you know

Also if it's traced, flag the post rather than calling it out in a random forum post

Coloring is the least of your concerns, so criticizing somebody else's coloring will not make your posts pass approval. There is no double standard here.

E621 is not your personal art gallery, it is a curated furry imageboard with Uploading Guidelines and strict Quality Standards to follow.

If you want to post your artworks somewhere without worrying about violating any standards, post on your own website or one that is designed to do just that (e.g., FurAffinity, DeviantArt, FurryNetwork, etc.).

But I've come back because of a post I discovered and also personal events in my life. The personal events aren't important, but this post is: https://e621.net/posts/3164552?q=sssonic2+knuckles_the_echidna

We allow third-party edits to be posted. In this case, it is a color edit.

For this to be considered as traced and/or plagiarised, there needs to be a deliberate attempt to obscure the origins of the original image and/or claim the artwork as being one's own original work.

The post you linked has both the original artist and editor's name credited in the artwork itself.

You don't get to dictate or make demands on what staff is going to do.

If you perceive any double standards when it comes to quality standards, flag the post in question for not meeting the uploading guidelines and another janitor will come and take a look at it.

Edit: ...sniped by Wolfgang again.

You seem to be unfamiliar with the rules of our site outside of just the uploading guidelines.

If you want to contest a deletion, as said in our FAQ, you may politely request the staff member who deleted it reconsider, & if they decline, you may escalate it in the manner outlined here.

Here are a few alternative options for you:

  • Flag the alleged post: As Donovan suggested, this is the appropriate action if this is your reason. No approval is permanent, & we can (& do) re-adjudicate prior decisions all the time. If you feel that post doesn't meet our standards, then flag it & move on. It's not my call, but I'd say there's a fair chance it too would be rejected on review.
  • Don't worry about approval: Getting your art on e621 isn't something worth staking this much emotion on; stop concerning yourself with our approval & just draw what you like. If it's rejected, so what?
  • Post to a site without an uploading guideline: e621 isn't a very kind environment for a novice artist, but there's nothing forcing you to upload here. We generally recommend users not upload their own works until other people organically upload them & they get approved; this save them the strife of honing their craft while having their efforts be deemed unworthy by a moderation team. There's sites like FurAffinity & Inkbunny for furry-centric works, & sites like DeviantArt & Twitter outside it, just to name a few.

I'd tell you the list of our alternative options, but I do not think you'd like what you find on that list; it's best you rethink your actions so we don't have to go down said list with you.
