Topic: We need to talk about the shirtless tag.

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

shirtless is currently mistagged to the point of uselessness. I estimate one in five posts are correctly tagged, if that. The vast majority of posts are of topless males, largely tagged by users who genuinely don't know the topless tag exists (as I've confirmed via PM). shirtless solo -bra -topwear should produce next to no results, but instead it produces over 3000. I've been chipping away at tag cleanup, but at ~6800 posts, I could spend years at that and not finish.

This isn't going to change without a concerted, multiple-person cleanup effort. If we don't have the will and manpower for that, I think we need to seriously consider aliasing shirtless to topless. "Shirtless" is a valid clothedness category if it's consistently tagged correctly, but the fact is that it isn't, and currently it's doing more harm than good. All it really does at this point is split topless content across two tags.

Not gonna lie, I would not have known these are two separate tags that must never touch before I saw it mentioned in another thread. If anything, I feel like topless should imply shirtless.
As for the workload- have you used https://tagme.dev/ ? It's pretty simple and makes it much faster. You should probably limit yourself though- I ended up maxing out my household's internet one month.

I prefer to go through the posts manually so I can add additional tags like shirtless_<gender> and shirtless_<form>, but I can try making a tagme if others would find that helpful.

You can also manually add tags that aren't part of the tagme project. It's a huge timesaver.

Or add them as a possibility. I think I'd set it up like
1. -topless -shirtless -topless/shirtless_gender_tags
2. -topless -topless_gender_tags
3. shirtless_male
4. shirtless_female
5. shirtless_intersex (is that a tag?)

I think there are too many combinations to make for an economical amount of options.

For now, the TagMe is here. It's my first time making one, so hopefully I didn't mess anything up.

(I'm still not sure about how neckwear and capes interact with shirtless, so a few posts are still uncertain for me.)
