Topic: Bulk update request - cleaning up the train-related tags, pt 1

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #12100 is pending approval.

create alias freight_railcar (12) -> freight_railroad_car (0)
create implication freight_railroad_car (0) -> railroad_car (0)
create alias passenger_railcar (32) -> passenger_railroad_car (0)
create implication passenger_railroad_car (0) -> railroad_car (0)

Reason: "Railcar" is an ambiguous term that can refer to different things depending on region. "Railroad car" is unambiguous. The tags are also updated to imply a new "railroad_car" tag that covers unpowered railway rolling stock, which presently lacks a tag.

Ah, I just did a search and found a BUR you submitted that I hadn't seen before - topic #47403. That larger request does include railcar, but there is some conflict between that request and this new one. In this request, you suggest freight_railcar to freight_railroad_car; there you request a mass-update of freight_railcar to freight_car. Here you suggest passenger_railcar to passenger_railroad_car; there you suggest passenger_railcar to passenger_car. Can you eliminate one of the requests and consolidate? Happy to vote in favor of any update that organizes these tags better once that's done.

I prefer this one because it's clearer to people who don't know rail-related terminology, and I think it makes more sense to deal with the tags in multiple separate update requests each tackling a different area. I'm not sure how to "eliminate" a request - do you mean hiding it?

Mass updates are redundant here, aliases already do that.

You can edit and reject your own BURs, for example through this link: BUR #12100.

Thanks, I've rejected the older BUR and removed the redundant mass updates from this one.

Good call on both decisions - making the terminology a bit clearer and packaging the updates in smaller BURs. Thanks!
