Topic: Alias mouse_tail & rat_tail -> hairless_tail

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #11269 has been rejected.

create alias mouse_tail (1787) -> rodent_tail (407)
remove implication rat_tail (2864) -> tail (1739176)

Reason: These look functionally equivalent, and I think specific animal tails are too specific. (Are there even any obvious visual differences between a mouse tail and a rat tail?)

EDIT: The bulk update request #11269 (forum #451840) has been rejected by @Beholding.

Updated

rodents like squirrels, chinchillas, and others have furry tails, also other mammals like opossums will conflict because they aren't rodents.
i prefer aliasing them all to hairless tail

+1 for hairless_tail or bald_tail (if hair vs feathers or whatever is an issue)

33% of all tails will experience baldness past the age of 30

The bulk update request #11279 is pending approval.

create implication hairless_tail (1162) -> tail (1739176)
create alias bald_tail (138) -> hairless_tail (1162)
create alias mouse_tail (1787) -> hairless_tail (1162)
remove implication rat_tail (2864) -> tail (1739176)

Reason: As suggested. Aliasing bald_tail to hairless_tail since the latter has more usage and a wiki page.

Hairless tail does not work, because they in fact have hair on their tails, and sometimes artists may choose to depict the hair they have.

I mean, hairless cats, hairless dogs, and humans usually have some short hair or 'peach fuzz' visible up close that may be depicted. Including a few visible hairs on a bald character is also established visual shorthand for them being shaved or mangy.

Using species-specific language to describe anatomy is probably a bad idea in general. Opossums don't have "rat tails" any more than fennecs have "rabbit ears" or lizards have "cat eyes."

...Tbh, there's probably a fair amount of posts in the mouse_tail and rat_tail tags where the tails DO have a bit of fur.
Plus, there's probably a sizable number of posts where "rat_tail" has been erroneously tagged in reference to the hairstyle of the same name.

So, I think the most sensical thing, while time-consuming, would be to go through those manually and tag hairless_tail manually for those two tags.

However, I support the first two items mentioned above in that bulk-update:

create implication hairless_tail (1171) -> tail (1725246)
create alias bald_tail (138) -> hairless_tail (1171)

Okay I forgot to respond, but my point still stands. The tail on this thing is something I would refer as a mouse tail, but not something I would refer as hairless tail. It's entirely covered in fur. The fur is less dense than rest of the coat, but it's clearly fully fur covered regardless, and not hairless under any metrics.

Just because in most cases hairless is accurate descriptor does not mean that it will always be. And this is not what if hypotheticals since we have 66 posts of a character based on this exact mouse species, with (variably) visibly fur covered tail.
