It's been a while, but probably Scarlet Fox from Ranger Rick Adventures back in the '80s when the stories were text with illustrations that were actually good accompanying them.

For me, it was Daxter. He was the right amount of funny and cute to get my attention in my youth. I didn't know just how suggestive he was til my late teens, and nowadays I have him marked down as my first real video game crush.
