Is there even a distinction to make between love and romance/romantic? From a TWYS perspective, these seem the same.

Because English does not distinguish between different types of love, it can also be tagged for familial or general love, not just romantic love. That it violates TWYS is a valid concern, but a discussion for another time.

Is there a canon couple tag? That seems to apply to a significant portion of these.

That's a good reason to get rid of it. It's a random mix of a euphemism for sex, romantic displays, and general affection, which are all separate concepts that shouldn't be mashed together under one tag, IMO (would you want post #5268254 and post #5286839 to both be identified with the same love tag?). And also a number of posts that are tagged because the tagger says so, like post #5286812 and post #5278734. It may be better to disambiguate for sex, romantic, some tag for platonic affection or close friendship, and whatever else "love" can mean to someone.

canon_couple.

canon_couple
I've argued for this tag in the past but honestly these days i might rather just replace it with a romantic couple lore tag. It does have a slightly separate meaning (doesn't cover crossovers or fan ships and probably not OCs) but maybe it's more trouble than it's worth

Agreed, it should absolutely be a lore tag since it relies on external information. (The same probably applies to other "couple" tags, honestly, but that's a topic for another time.)

Re: Watsit's points, should we request to alias love to a love_(disambiguation) tag and propose creation of some kind of "platonic love" tag?
