How in the holy mother of ceiling cat did you make a SMALL LOWER CASE 'D' ? O_O
This. So much this.
(On a more serious note though, this is probably a good idea. Visually the lower-case "d" looks nothing like the upper-case mouth, so it confuses which face it's supposed to be the tag for [since tags default to a lower-case]. This way it'd be obvious which expression it is for. I just dunno how you got it to do that.)

I do believe tagging guidelines are against random Unicode characters in tags. My phone also won't show it, and there's a large amount of people using Android here that won't see it either. Probably all mobile OSes in general. As well as that, I personally think this tag should die along with :P, :( and :).

Good points, I didn't realise that it wouldn't display on several prominent phone models. Come to think of it, unicode can be fickle if you're missing the right fonts. So functionally it may not be a good idea after all.

Btw, you might be happy to note that those other tags you mentioned already ARE dead. Each one has been aliased to tongue_out, frown, and smile respectively. :)

It's not even showing in my Chrome browser.

I am very much opposed to creating a tag alias that turns something into unicode. Perhaps we can just alias the tag to something else entirely

How about open_mouth?

Actually I think something like "open_smile" might be more accurate? More descriptive of the facial expression involved. Especially since looking at the images tagged with it, there's a lot that wouldn't really be described as a normal smile. The images tagged with ":D" are like a combination of "open_mouth" and "smile" making it a different expression than a normal smile. While the smile tag has gotten a little messy, the overwhelming majority are closed-mouth smiles. And the expressions are enough different that I could see and open-mouthed smile staying a separate tag from a closed-mouth default smile. So, could aliasing :D ---> open_smile work better?
