Topic: Get automatic no_sound for gif to filter animated

Posted under General

I want to search through video with sound including videos that have not been categorized if audio or not.
Meaning I want results from the search animated -no_sound (with some other tags) to miss nothing. Even if I can just do animated sound and miss videos that have sound without the tag.
But video has been redirected to animated which includes gifs. And we know that gifs can never have audio.
So why not automatically add no_sound to them (gif) ? It will classify a lot of animated results.
When searching animated -sound -no_sound we see an enormous amount of content to tag if there is audio. There are more unclassified content than the limit of search results (750 pages).

Ideally, no_sound should be removed as it's redundant given the sound tag. Tags like no_sound should only be used on posts that could otherwise have sound, but occasionally gets misused on posts that it shouldn't be. The sound tag may be underused, but as you point out, so is no_sound, so we end up with two underused tags instead of one. Trying to get people to properly use two tags is harder than one tag.

In any case, you can use animated type:webm to find animations that are webm (so not gif or apng, which can't have sound). If you find posts with sound that don't have the sound tag, feel free to add it.

why are you adding no_sound to animated gifs? that tag's only meant for formats that support sound.

Sorry, I didn't know that animated gifs shouldn't have no_sound.
I go to wiki page when I am not sure about the use of a tag (or by curiosity or to find alternatives) and this time I haven't do it.
Someone already fixed no_sound I added.

Thank you. In that case, I think that I should just use type:webm instead of animated (as this format is always animated and his the only one that can have sound. I saw that type:mp4 proposed in auto-completion is empty.)

I think we should really keep both. It is useful to know what has been categorized or not. Then we can fix what is missing with type:webm -sound -no_sound (which I am doing right now).
With only one tag, I would never try to fix everything missing the tag (because I wouldn't been able to know if something as been treated).
