I'm trying to find Genderswapped art, but the search autocompletes to "crossgendeer", which includes things like Futanari, MTF and FTM. Is there a way to stop the search from doing that?

Cross gender is gender swap.

I guess you can look up crossgender -intersex -trans_(lore) perhaps?

mtf_crossgender is male characters being depicted as female, it's not necessarily transgender unlike the way that people normally use "MTF" and "FTM". you are, in fact, using the correct tag for finding gender-swapped characters.
negate tags like -mti_crossgender -fti_crossgender if you want to exclude male/female characters becoming intersex.

I see. I would have thought that Genderswap would mean swapping someone's "cannon" gender to the opposite (a cis male character to a cis female etc), and Crossgender would mean an existing character transitioning to another (a cis male character to a trans female etc).

Is there really no way to just search for just what you want and not what the Site wants?

Cross gender is gender swap. It is exactly what you are wanting.

But gender swap doesn’t just mean opposite, because you can swap a female to a male, or a female to an intersex.

To search for what you want just do crossgender -intersex -trans_(lore) that will give you gender swaps where they swap only from male to female or vice versa.

genderswap as a tag does not exist on its own (it's aliased to crossgender)
Even if you could search it you would find no results because it can't be added to posts

in most cases it is up to you to find the tags that suit your interests. if you want to articulate what you're looking for, then we can help you, but unfortunately we have not implemented mind-reading yet.

as previously explained, mtf_crossgender does not necessarily depict gender transitioning, and likewise for ftm_crossgender

crossgender and genderswapped are synonyms, so they've been aliased together. (i.e. if a character in an image has been genderswapped they are crossgender)

you can look at the wikipage for crossgender for its definition as well as its child tags and similar/related tags.

If I'm understanding this right, it sounds like there's a bit of a mistagging problem — that is, people putting the "crossgender" tag on posts where it doesn't belong — and I don't think that's something carefully tailoring search terms can effectively fix.

The only suggestion I can give would be "<character name> <desired gender> solo".

what do you mean? crossgender is for any instance where a character with a consistent known gender is depicted as any of the other 5 (non-ambiguous) gender categories. and that's how the tag is used, as far as I can tell.
