Boyfriend and girlfriend as lore, maybe. But "friend" seems too nebulous and general to be worthwhile as a tag. Anyone on friendly terms with another can be said to be friends. Boy/girlfriend is also a more-than-friends relationship, where in some situations or settings, may be equivalent to being married (I know of people in the real world who are "boyfriend and girlfriend", who have been living together for multiple decades and have multiple kids, who simply haven't and don't want to get legally married). In fictional settings, marriage doesn't have to be a thing and boy/girlfriend can be the highest form of relationship.

yet we have parent as a lore tag which one might argue has the same exact problems, or son which is often also used in situations irl were there is no parental relationship..

friend is also intended to serve as an umbrella to boyfriend and girlfriend like parent does for mother and father.

These tags would be no less or more useful then what we already have to cover parental connections.

Totally understandable if you're not a native english speaker - but "friend" doesn't mean this. Friend refers to platonic friendship, and girlfriend/boyfriend refer to a romantic/sexual partner.

Mind you but I am a native English speaker here in the US and that is not the definition of girlfriend or boyfriend, calling someone as such does not entail a romantic or sexual relationship anymore than friend does, they are simply gendered specifications of friend, nothing more, nothing less.. I am mildly curious were you got that idea from.

None of this provides reason why friend and its gendered specifications cannot be lore tags while we have other lore tags for generic things such as parent or sibling. Id appreciate a explaination how these might defer in relevancy because they appear to be of the same importance to me and while I see people down voting this proposal no one has now or in past provided a reason besides not following "Tag what you see" rules before tags specifically for lore were implemented or simply building on related decisions without a second thought(ex: boyfriends should be aliased because girlfriends is aliased(which it self is aliased because friendship is aliased, no record seems to exist for friendship)).

Boyfriend/girlfriend implies a close romantic association, not necessarily sexual since asexual people get boyfriends/girlfriends too, but something more than friends. "Boy friend" and "girl friend" (note the spaces) are gendered specifications of friend, but boyfriend and girlfriend are a step or two beyond that.

"Friend" is a much looser or more lax association compared to familial associations. Any two people who are on good terms with each other can be said to be friends, regardless of how else they may relate to each other, while parent or sibling can only apply to specific characters who have family ties with each other.

In a romantic context, this normally signifies a committed relationship where the individuals are not married.

So it definitely has romantic connotations, while "friend" does not.
