Topic: why are the sound versions are deleted while the animations without sound was the flagged one?

Posted under General

I have sound versions of the Rouge animation that I uploaded last time. I have uploaded these and flagged the old ones, as I see the ones with sound as an improvement. However, the ones with sound have now been deleted and I don't know why or what I should do now. ._.

Was the one with sound made by the
artist or was it a third-party edit?

Because if it is, That'll do it, Dood. ╹‿╹)

Third-party edits are generally held to a
really high standard to not be seen as
an inferior version of the original.

So much so that if the piece doesn't
Directly have the artist's blessing,
there's a great chance it's going down
as an inferior version, Dood -‿-)~★

Bonus Note:
And the one with sound wouldn't call for
the one without sound to be removed and
replaced. It calls for it to be parented like this,

It's not an improvement but, a variation, Dood!

I know that you can only upload 4 alternatives and therefore have the old flag and the sound edit by a third was very good imo. And isn't it up to me which version I think is better (specialy if i am the uploader)? Because sound in general makes an animation so much better...

Yes, but if someone improves an animation with sound and there are only 4 alternatives allowed anyway, then you have to use the one without the sound flag, don't you? So if you previously had the non-sound versions with 4 alternatives.
That makes sense, at least in my eyes.

No, the version originally created by the artist is always considered the best/superior version and is never replaced by third-party edited version. Whether or not the sound makes an animation "better" is subjective, so the original is always the baseline that is kept, and third-party alternatives are accepted when they're of sufficient quality.

Exactly what Watsit Said, The Bottom line is that the artist has the last say on what version is kept
as the definitive version. Honestly being the uploader alone of a piece and not the artist isn't a badge,
it's a liability. A peep could VERY much be moderated for uploading the wrong thing.
Especially without the artist's permission. The D.N.P list exists for this reason, Dood. ╹‿╹)

So that mean i can't upload sound edits as an alternative version if there are already 4 just becuse they are the original? I can't say that I like this rule, because I always make 4 alternative versions...

And what would be if i am basicly the artist?

Hmmmm...
That's a VERY suspicious "basically."
How are you the artist in this context, Dood?

Yes. This site's aim is to archive the original art created by artists, and third-party edited versions aren't the originals, they're not what the artist created. The original artist also reserves the right to have edited versions taken down (some artists go CDNP to not allow edits, but they don't have to and can just file takedowns of whichever edits they don't want here).

To clear things up, I'll like to point out:
1) The number of alternate versions permitted have now increased from 4 to 10 (including original)
2) The bare minimum required for a sound version to be approved is that the visual quality must be the same as the original (soundless) version.
If the sound version is from/provided by the artist/creator of the video, it's likely to be kept given the previous req is met, if it's third party edit, that's a grey area (and likely to be deleted as duplicate).

I beg to differ. Almost every post with a sound edit is upvoted more than the non sound version.

upvoted more != improved/better, people will upvote the crustiest jpeg into the thousands while neglecting the png that's twice the size

It's consistent. People clearly like the sound version more

lol, since when? If this was the case then ruaidri wouldn't have a bunch of status:deleted animations under his artist tag because he loves sound edits and blesses them.

I don't care how popular mayonnaise squishing and squeaky anime girl voices are. I'm a hater. And more than that, my opinion is objectively correct.

I’ve seen official sound edits that were deleted for being a duplicate/inferior version because they were a smaller file size (although one wouldn’t be able to tell just from watching them). I’m sure there’s reasoning behind keeping the largest file size, but it’s a bit hard to understand to the layman (like myself).

You can add an audio stream without re-encoding video, so the only reason a sound edit would be smaller is if they reduced the visual quality to absolute crap.

It is possible in some cases that they compressed it more without losing quality, though yeah, shouldn't be re-encoded in the first place.

So when I inspect the files, they have pretty much the same quality, also I don't understand, if 10 alts are allowed, why the 4 with sound were deleted. But it doesn't really matter, I kinda feel cockblocked here becuse of stuff like this, it's hard to keep the fun to be an uploader here but I can't change it either because I'm practically powerless.

It's been mentioned in the thread above that third party sound edits are considered duplicates of the original, and the original is not considered inferior to any sound versions. This is so that a random person can't just slap music on top of the original video to delete the original

There are plenty of surviving third party sound edits, though? The originals don't get deleted, both usually stay as long as the video quality is identical. Plenty of recent examples of this in third-party_edit sound. If it were over the 10 version limit it would be deleted of course, but to my knowledge the 4 version limit is just gone. I thought in this situation it was just because the sound version didn't have exactly identical video, it was instead re-encoded.

Sound quality (Voice Acting/ Effect Style) also plays a big part here,
My guess for the post you mentioned was the sound edit wasn't up
to par. While the video met the quality standards, the audio didn't.

And for a post, even if it's the original and the
artist added the sounds themselves, if it's below the bar
it could be removed for not meeting quality standards.

and third-party edits are held to a standard about
3-times more strict than the original post since they
have to go the extra mile to show that this qualifies
as an enhancement of the post as a whole rather
than just one with sound.

Kinda like the "price is right", The edit has to be a
largely different bid than the original to be allowed
on e6. The edit would need to be:

Original Post+ Effects+ Professional/Well-Known Voice Acting+ The original Artist's Blessing

instead of

Orginal Post + Any Sound.

Adding sound of any quality, to a post that didn't have it already,
isn't enough to qualify it to be a better version than the original.
It'd have to be on par with the art it's going onto and if it's not
it's seen as a duplicate/Doesn't meet quality standards (Art Wise)
since the sound didn't make the cut, Dood. =P
