Topic: [REJECTED] Reassignment Surgery

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #8042 has been rejected.

create alias sex_reassignment_surgery (0) -> gender_reassignment_surgery (4)
create alias accidental_sex_reassignment_surgery (0) -> accidental_gender_reassignment_surgery (0)

Reason: These appear to be used pretty much interchangeably. The majority of posts tagged with one are tagged with the other.
idk which way the alias should go, but I think it should be consolidated into one tag.

The Wikipedia article is titled Gender-affirming surgery, so I suggest aliasing the other names to that

Creating a separate BUR so democracy can decide lol

If it was accidental (and they didn't want to change), it wouldn't be particularly gender-affirming would it? post #140633

yeah, it's really only gender affirming if their, y'know, gender is being affirmed.

I-- I don't know what direction we sould go with this one. I feel like sex_reassignment_surgery is technically the most neutral and accurate term but it's kinda fallen out of use... if we wanted to go really colloquial we could call it bottom_surgery, I feel like that's a pretty well-known term, but at the same time...

hot take: whatever gender surgery tag we go for should imply surgical_operation if we don't want people to tag posts that are just post-op scars or simple acknowledgements that a character in a pic earned their dick

The bulk update request #8048 is pending approval.

create implication accidental_gender-affirming_surgery (2) -> gender-affirming_surgery (17)
create implication gender-affirming_surgery (17) -> surgical_operation (209)

Reason: Even if it's accidental, it still is the surgery.
Also implying surgical operation as suggested above

If we're going with this name, better set up the appropriate implications

Can be rejected since they're all aliased

This is a valid point. This might not have been the best name. ๐Ÿค”

Or forced upon them, in which case it could be considered gender-denying surgery despite looking the same from a TWYS standpoint.

Seems to me this is an example of why tag names in general should not contain overtly subjective elements -- we just aren't aiming to tag those (even in lore tags, really), and it tends to produce incorrect or even absurd implications. Being clinical is probably more correct even if we have to use outdated language in order to do so.
