Topic: [APPROVED] Sephiroth update name & implication BUR

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #7394 is active.

create alias sephiroth (0) -> sephiroth_(disambiguation) (0)
create implication sephiroth_(final_fantasy_vii) (94) -> final_fantasy_vii (1793)

Reason: All current images with tag sephiroth all point towards Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, however there might be other characters out there using the same name.
Also adds implication of Sephiroth and Final Fatansy VII

Sephiroth is a really iconic and unique name at this point, I don't think it needs disambiguation.

I'll invoke mario and say that nobody will think of those other options when the name Sephiroth comes up.

The same was said about krystal, with attempts to add a suffix and disambiguate being rejected due to the Star Fox one being the most popular despite other characters having the same name. Until one day recently she was disambiguated. I don't think "it's the most popular one" is a good reason to not disambiguate if there's more than one. I'd be on board with disambiguating mario too.

As for the BUR, unfortunately you can't mass update and alias a tag at the same time. The two commands aren't guaranteed to run in sequence, so it's possible for the alias to happen before the update, or for the update to happen first for some posts and the alias for others. The update and alias to separate tags need to be separate BURs.

I'm not a huge fan of the idea of people just aping a popular character's fully original name and saying now the original character needs the be disambiguated.

I can see arguments for disambiguating mario and krystal because those are just a real-ass names, Sephiroth isn't.

In this BUR which one do you think is more important to run? alias or update?

Just create a second BUR that's the update only, and attach it to this forum

He's not even the only Final Fantasy character with this name.
FF6 has a character named "Sefilos" (spelled exactly the same in Japanese), and FF14 spells his name as "Sephirot".

change category sephiroth_(disambiguation) (0) -> invalid

change category faline_(disambiguation) (0) -> invalid
create alias aysu (0) -> aysu_(disambiguation) (0)

mass update faline -> faline_(bambi)
create implication faline_(bambi) (163) -> bambi_(film) (1056)
create alias faline (4) -> faline_(disambiguation) (0)

Reason: If we're disambiguating, the tag should be in the invalid category

Results for:
faline*
florian*
aysu*

Additional information: The florian_(disambiguation) tags are from gattonero tagging it manually well after this was approved (and not from a previous approved then rejected alias as I presumed)

Add these too.
category aysu_(disambiguation) -> invalid category florian_(disambiguation) -> invalid category faline_(disambiguation) -> invalid

Sure. Didn't do them last time since they didn't have aliases
