Topic: BUR for window-related tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #7349 is pending approval.

create alias through_window (90) -> through_window_(disambiguation) (0)
change category through_window_(disambiguation) (0) -> invalid
create implication looking_through_window (376) -> window (40205)
create implication going_through_window (1) -> window (40205)
create implication looking_out_window (158) -> looking_through_window (376)
mass update inside_looking_out -> outward_window_view
mass update outside_looking_in -> inward_window_view

Reason: through_window is ambiguous, and it should be disambiguated between looking_through_window and going_through_window. Both of these tags require a window present in the picture.

looking_out_window requires a character that is looking_through_window. Specifically, looking_out_window is for when the character is inside and looking outside. There's currently no "outside and looking inside" counterpart to the tag, but I could add looking_into_window -> looking_through_window to the BUR, if we want to create a looking_into_window tag for that.

I've been using inside_looking_out and outside_looking_in for when the picture's viewpoint and focus are separated by a window:

But I realize these names could be confusing (is it about a character looking through a window, or the viewpoint?), so I propose mass updating the names to outward_window_view and inward_window_view for clarification.

Not gonna lie, I'm mainly creating this BUR today because owo speech is funny and basically acceptable trolling with plausible deniability.

Bump, in case anyone wants to read through me overthinking window-related tags, now that Apwiw Foow's is uvw.

I was going to bring up the through_wall tag, but I suppose x-ray vision to look through walls isn't all that common. The inconsistency kinda bugs me but it'll be too confusing without a disambiguation, agreed.

Are the outward_window_view / inward_window_view tags necessary? The inside and outside tags are already tagged by viewpoint, so these seem a bit redundant.

Necessary? Probably not. I was using these tags since neither inside nor outside seemed appropriate for such pictures, even though one is technically correct. Do the tags serve a practical, realistic purpose? Well, I'm not sure if anyone wants to search for "any picture with the focus on a window", but more realistically, they can be used for certain exhibitionistic on_glass and voyeur POV stuff:

...but I suppose you can already search on_glass window and voyeur_pov for those. Someone else tagged inside_looking_out for outer space views:

...but, space window is already searchable, so maybe they don't serve much purpose. Honestly, these came about from me being needlessly pedantic when I was trying to help tag inside and outside for a while. I could remove them from the BUR if that simplifies things.
