Topic: can you watch furry porn and not be a furry?

Posted under Off Topic

Being a furry imo is more than just enjoying furry porn. Does that make you in part a furry? Probably. As for wondering if you're a furry, if you're asking yourself the question whether you are or aren't a furry, that's for you to decide.

Peep's Right, You're only a furry if you say you're one.
Otherwise this anime generated a good million.

The Furry Fandom is an open door, Another's peeps
word on your status as one means less than nothing.
If you say you're not, you're not. If You say you are, You are.

Liking aspects of one thing, Furry or no. It doesn't mean that
you're instantly on-bored with anything and everything the fandom
is about. Liking Lewd Animations doesn't "Make you a furry," Ya just
got a kink. And Kinks aren't a commitment, Just an interest, Dood!

I think if you enjoy furry porn because the characters are furries, I think there's reasonable ground to call yourself a furry
if you just enjoy it for some other reason like for fetishes or specific type of act portrayed. or just prefer pornographic art over porn with real people, i don't think it makes you a furry.

What do you think you are communicating with "furry", and who are you communicating it to?

There is some set of characteristics that you regard as relevant to identifying 'furry'. Maybe that's just the empty set, in which case the question of whether you are or aren't a furry would be pointless. The question of whether *others would regard you as a furry* is something we might be able to answer ('no, not necessarily; more context needed' in my case) but it has no bearing on whether you 'are' a furry. Either you identify that way or you don't; either people you consider as 'furry' accept that identification or they don't; there's no positive fact of the matter, because 'furry' is as vague as any other genre label.

You fapped once for furry porn you are a furry, I am sorry it's in the rules...

i've been on this site for 6 years (i deleted my first account, don't worry about it) and have been an off-account lurker for who knows how long. this site was my legit entry point into furry art

yet after watching Patricia Taxxon's on the ethics of doinking animal people i have never been more confident that i am not a furry

This seems to be a recurring question in these forums for some reason, normally I'd just pass the topic up, but instead, I'll give a serious response.

Being "A Furry" is something you have to describe yourself as. If you think it makes you a furry, it does, if you don't, then it doesn't. Of course, there's a point where you're definitely a furry without saying you are one, if you are an active part of an online furry community, collect, commission and/or draw furry art, attend conventions, have a fursona, and wear a fursuit, you can't say you're "not a furry though".

If the porn is your only involvement, and assuming you're not exclusively viewing furry porn, the choice is entirely up to you. Personally speaking, I think you have to do more than simply view furry porn to really be "A Furry". It would be pretty odd to describe yourself as an "otaku" or "weeaboo" or whatever you want to call an anime fan, just because you view hentai. However, that's just my opinion.

i mean i've been regularly beating my meat to furry smut since circa 2009 and haven't once interacted with the fanbase outside of e6. but the better question is why do our opinions matter to you? call yourself whatever you want

Depends how you view and understand identity

Hi, non-furry here.

I guess the answer to this is related to your relationship with the furry porn you watch. I'd say you don't have to be a furry to "engage" with the pornography.

But if furry porn is your primary source of pornography and you use or relate more to that and have more of a reaction to furry porn than regular porn, then yes, you are a furry.

With that said, furries are more than just the porn. There is a whole culture with a lot of customs and costumes.

I’d say it certainly means you aren’t not a furry. Doesn’t matter if furry shit doesn’t affect my life at all IRL, but if you stroke to it then you’re definitely like 75% furry. That’s my take though lol

the furry fandom has no leaders and no rules, that's right, there are NO rules on how to be a furry and anyone who says otherwise is full of shit. if you say you're a furry then your a furry, if you say you're not a furry then you're not a furry, you can jack off to whatever porn is crapped out by the perverts of this fandom and still not be a furry if you don't want to be one.

This is probably going to be taken as incredibly wrong, but I kind of have a hill to die on.

Not Every Last Thing, absolutely, incontrivertibly, and without argument, Has To Be "Furry".

Reality doesn't operate under George Boole's understanding, and positivism does not particularly serve to simplify it. I have seen it be applied to and ultimately ruin a whole lot of good things which could have stood on their own feet. Had they not been burdened with the weight of some loaded term as the baggage it didn't have to carry in the first place.
Things I cannot stand now and specifically because of what happened to them in the process of being placed under the umbrella of a whole lot of terms and all their conditions.
So no, I'm going to say it doesn't put you under it and go a little further - Your favorite movie or cartoon or any other fiction does not definitively makes you furry, either.
This is without any offense toward whoever identifies as that. I just have to believe from my own experiences that binaries which deal in absolutes tend to restrict & constrict.

I don't know, I feel like there's kind of a dichotomy here and both sides have merit. I appreciate selfID, I think it's very important to allow an individual to define who they are for themselves without external judgement. but simultaneously, I think that it's important to strive to present yourself truthfully, both to yourself, as well as others whenever possible (obviously if presenting as such has the potential of harm, maybe avoid doing that). words have meanings, if you truly believe that a word does not describe you than you shouldn't feel pressure to identify with that label, but you shouldn't be afraid to label yourself with a word that'd fit just because you dislike the connotations.

there's a saying that I've heard tossed around that's kind of related to this subject: "don't kill the part of yourself that's cringe, kill the part that cringes", and while the advice might not be applicable to all traits (like, if someone's a creepy asshole, they definitely should work on not being that), I think, overall, it's a pretty decent message.

I'm suprised with how recent this question is. Besides that, I say it's only a yes if you're specifically interested in the furry aspects of the characters. If whatever it was you thought or are tugging the rope or ringing your bell to caught your eye is because of maybe the animation, art style, or something else aside from the fact that it's furry I'd say you're not. Very different story however if it's most of what you're looking at in your private time. At that point I'm just being reminded of those "I'm just being ironic" people with the furry stuff. Then again, I shoudn't be one to judge. I wouldn't call someone who beats off to hentai an anime fan.
