Topic: Perhaps we could have a "Content Warn" tag category with priority above artists?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

It would help know certain types of content before diving into it, as they can be normally diluted among the general tags. And no, this doesn't involve blacklisting, because while I'm willing to look at some gore stuff, I don't want to click a video to later find out it's gore because the tags are diluted.

Eh, I think not having a category would be more flexible. Instead have a setting where the user can put tags that should be warned about. Shuffling those to the front can be done client-side (maybe at the same time that the blacklist is applied)

Perhaps, but preferably softly blur the thumbnail rather than hide the entry or cover the thumbnail.

I don't know why, but I have this nagging feeling that tags in the content warning category would get tagged slightly less or removed if added. Kind of like what people are doing with the young tag.

A "Warning" category in general would be really good actually. sound_warning and conditional_dnp would fit much better there instead of being awkwardly crammed in the artist section for visibility

We also already treat the "contentious content" tags/ones in the global blacklist a bit differently than other tags in the way that you're required to include them. Having all of those in a Warning category makes a lot of sense

When I say 'shuffle to the front' I mean to the front (start) of the tag list shown in the tooltip you get when you mouse over a thumbnail, and of the 'sidebar' tag list on individual posts. That is what you are concerned with, right?

That doesn't help much: if you are navigating on touch devices, or even usually on PC, you won't pay attention to the tooltip, since it has a significant delay.

Also true, a "Warning" category could include those as well.

I agree a warning category would be great for sound_warning, epilepsy_warning, and conditional_dnp (and maybe more) but just in case you weren't aware - did you know you can blacklist more than just single tags? You can blacklist any string of tags you can search for, including - and ~ operators. For this specific problem, it sounds like blacklisting gore long_playtime may help, it'll filter out long videos that contain gore (but won't touch other gore art that's not a long video or long videos that don't have gore).

I think ~ and * only work with Re621, - and </> for metatags should function for everyone

But what if the long video has gore only for a certain scene, and it's majorly NOT about gore? Or if the video has gore, but it is played for laughs?

There are some tags I never want to see, at all, so I put them in the blacklist. But there are also some tags I only occasionally am ok with seeing. What do I do? Right now, I can only add them to the blacklist as well. I constantly have to check if there are any posts being hidden by my blacklist, and then make the decision if I wish to see them. I can't click the disable blacklist option, cus that would show the really bad stuff. And even when I disable blacklisting a certain tag, I have no idea which post it actually is.

By having a separate "warning list", which only blurs or otherwise covers up thumbnails, browsing would be so much nicer.

A general purpose Warning category can only be used for some well established things, like sound_warning or the global blacklist. Just like how everything on this planet is someone's kink, it is also someone's phobia. So you can't really make a comprehensive list of everything that anyone could want to be warned about.

To be 100% clear, I agree with both features. Just don't go too crazy with making a new tag category.

Oh, a soft-blacklist would be really good. I'm the same way - I have gore blacklisted because I don't always want to see it, but I'm usually fine with it if I know it's coming. If we had a soft blacklist [only blurring/marking posts instead of completely hiding them] I think that'd be really useful for browsing. Not sure how rough that'd be on the programmers of the site, though.

Simple: instead of the style "display: none;" on the card, it would receive the "filter: blur(0.5rem);" (example value) style on the thumbnail.
