Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: kit -> kit_(disambiguation)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #65329 kit -> kit_(disambiguation) has been approved.

Reason: "kit" is way too generic of a name, send to disambiguation. The current "kit" tag has tons of different characters in it.

EDIT: The tag alias kit -> kit_(disambiguation) (forum #385838) has been approved by @slyroon.

I'm in agreement, with a few caveats.

To go along with what Cloudpie said.
Kit seems to have use as both a name tag and a 'sister tag' to the now defunct cub tag. I think kit should be aliased to young rather than the character tag.
Note: I've gone ahead and removed the tag from posts that appear to use it as an alternate to young rather than a name. (i.e. posts tagged kit young with no evidence of a character named kit from both the image itself, description, and source. Only one remains, as the commissioner is KitRyuu)

Since kit would be aliased to young, the script should use the update function to set the new character tag.
We can also just use the existing kit_(character) tag. Disambiguation labels are.. unnecessary for character tags.
(To support this: oliver_(disambiguation) is set as an invalid tag. Probably should get an alias script of it's own.)

Here's the example BUR. I can't create it myself due to the original alias request. (Checked with bitwolfy's BUR Debugger)

category kit -> general
update kit -> kit_(character)
alias kit -> young

Uh, no? Many MANY ambiguous character name tags are disambiguated, including Oliver. oliver_(disambiguation) is in the invalid category because all disambig tags are, that's how they work.

Or am I misunderstanding what you said?

Sorry, I misspoke.

My argument is that _(disambiguation) should be used for just that, disambiguation between tags as it's done via wiki pages (like a tag hub, see: jade_(disambiguation)). Not for characters without defined surnames/owners, as tags ending in _(character) already serve that purpose.

So.. Yes, kit_(disambiguation) should exist. But my BUR proposition still stands, as the furry definition of kit is mainly to describe a child (like cub). The tag kit on existing posts should be updated to kit_(character) to reflect the former's character category, while kit should alias to young in the future to reflect that definition (and the recent 'cub apocalypse').

On the point of the invalid category, I thought that oliver_(disambiguation) was marked as such because oliver_(character) should be used instead, seeing as there was no wiki created for it. Prior to the reply I had not seeing the disambiguation tag used like it is with the word Jade. My bad.

kit_(character) is also ambiguous, since there are a number of characters with the name and would need to be disambiguated. If someone just tags kit, there's no way to know what they actually meant, and aliasing to any one tag would cause a fair number of mistags.
