Reason: Establishing an umbrella tag for electronic devices.
I tried to keep this limited to inanimate "devices" so that the tag doesn't become polluted with robots and the like, as I think that's primarily what people searching this tag are looking for. Of course, there will inevitably be some robotic characters included when they have such devices built-in, but I think that's more acceptable. Also, including robots would just bloat the tag immensely.
Stuff I left out because I'm not sure about it:
- monitor and screen both exist. Screen seems to be broader, so hypothetically monitor should imply screen, and screen imply electronics. But screen seems to be tagged on a lot of stuff such as post #1229292, which does not depict any electronic device, but rather implies the viewer's screen. Also implied by screen_face which is necessarily used for robots, cyborgs, and other mechanical creatures. Again, I think it'd be best for this tag to be used for "devices" rather than animate characters as much as possible. I've added monitor to the BUR but held off on screen for these reasons, but if we end up implicating electronics from screen, then the monitor -> electronics implication will have to be removed.
- usb_drive could imply usb, but I wonder if flash drive would be a better name, simply because it's possible for a flash drive to exist which doesn't use the USB format... in which case it's not technically a "USB" drive. However, that's very niche and/or hypothetical, as all flash drive/USB drive posts on the site look like regular USB as far as one can tell. Also, the actual USB might not be visible, in which case implying USB might violate TWYS.
- tablet - this probably needs to be renamed or something, it sounds awfully ambiguous. Still seems to be the tag primarily used for tablet computers currently.
- cd_drive/dvd_drive - these will often be the same device as far as TWYS is concerned. Likewise for cd and dvd. You may be able to tell them apart in some cases, but not always.
- Not sure about appliance. A lot of them feel too simplistic to really be called "electronics", such as toasters, as they do nothing more than use the electricity to generate heat. I'm thinking electronics should only be for things that require circuitry and the like. Also, some older appliances functioned without electricity, such as gas ovens.
- cord, cable, and wire all seem to be used for electronic cords/cables/wires, but all three terms can also refer to non-electronic cords/cables/wires such as bungee cords and suspension bridge cables. I'm... just not touching any of that right now.
- circuit_board, circuit, circuitry - not sure what to do with these. Maybe alias circuit -> circuitry, imply circuit_board -> circuitry, imply circuitry -> electronics? Only problem I have is that circuit/circuitry often seems to be used for character/background/clothing patterns rather than actual tangible electronic devices. May just need some cleanup into a new circuit_pattern tag or similar.
