Topic: "Confirm not a robot" pops up a lot today

Posted under General

Since today, the white page with a button keeps popping up, to confirm I am not a robot.
But it is not a captcha or anything, so that is confusing. Its title is "Attention Required!" but it does not have its own URL.
I also find it odd because it is a very basic page, no styling.

For example one time, I was browsing by clicking tags, and it popped up. I click the button and it goes away.
This time, I was unable to load some hidden comments on some posts. When I navigated away, it gave the page.

I am using the same browser and system as normal. I have no extensions for this site.
Is there a reason (maybe increased checking because of bot attacks?) for the often checking?
Or did I do something wrong to aggravate site defences? If I did, please let me know in order for me not to do such things again.

Sorry if the category is wrong.

are you _sure_ you're not a robot?

I will do a few captchas and report back /j

I get that pop-up all the time, though I haven't noticed any particular spike today.

yes it does. the robot test appears more often sometimes.

It is the first time that I have seen this in my eight+ years as registered user.
The lack of recognizable esix design (or any design) and of any captcha made me fear I was MITM'd, or something.
But if this is normal, then it is okay. I only wonder what aggravated it.

I've had that page appear at times.

Really wish it didn't redirect you to the front page. That's annoying.

I do want to say that it is supremely annoying that it sends you to the home page after clicking the button rather than the page you were trying to access.

Also happens more on some ISPs? Verizon cell service is basically blocked for a lot of places or requires a ton of "not-a-bot" tests.

I did not notice it sends you to home page. But in my history it does have the home page URL.
Maybe it is DDOS happening as Kemonophonic suggests, if the site is slow and if these are popping up more.

What makes that message pop up anyway?
Is it once per so many combined clicks on the site, or just randomly given out every few mins or...?

They don't tell us, but pretty sure it has something to do with overall network traffic on the site and not anything related to you.

I had it happen just now when I was trying to make a tag change.

I would have been real fuckin' pissed if I had made a lot of changes and had to do them all over again, just saying.

This is why I try to remember to copy everything I do so I can past it if I get screwed over by the notification.

It has been popping up absurdly often. If it were just a click and never again for a few days, it'd be not so bad, but add how often it happens and the fact the button redirects to home page, and it gets really frustrating for registered users that surely are not bots.

I'm guessing the increase is, in part at least, being caused by an uptick of users connecting though VPNs after the recent age verification laws.
