smaller_penetrated got roughly 35k posts while larger_penetrated only got 17k, why is smaller_penetrated more popular?

People like seeing themselves as big and dominant vs something smaller and submissive.

Big=Strong, masculine, will take care of stuff
Smol=Weak, feminine, will be taken care of stuff

TL;DR It's a mix of dominant play and/or people prefer the sub being cuter/smaller than them.

I have that vanilla preference of "smaller penetrated" but there are few larger penetrated that are cute...

Hmm, reminds me of ゴト・ベイド(gotobeido) [1] and Pikajota [2] on Pixiv for the smaller human/larger dragon examples. For larger humans, there's some Feirune (dragon) and Queenie (shoutingisfun) (not quite dragon) examples posted on e621, I believe.
For non-human males, there's lots of choices for good examples, as well. Maybe I'll find some links, later.

It's some sort of domination thing or something, but also, porn logic dictates smaller penetrated = tighter fit = sexier.

well, going by favcount,
smaller_penetrated has 88 post over 8k
larger_penetrated has 17
furthermore,
smaller_penetrated's highest faved post has 34.9k favs
larger_penetrated's highest's got 24.6k

so, by every metric we could reasonably measure smaller_penetrated is more popular on here.

If you research statistics you might find that in the vast majority of cases they mean nothing.

in this case, if you don't know whether the upload rate is equal, or you don't know whether the tagging rate is equal, the meaning of 'X is more tagged/faved than Y' is 'go take a class in statistics'.

(the fact that it is not easy to measure these things doesn't change that they are crucial to determining the meaning of the stats you cited)

When it comes to straight sex involving fat women, it seems like at least half of the art has them paired with tiny males who are oftentimes submissive. This and the rarity of such art to begin with is a huge part of why I still look at real life porn.

Some also like to imagine themselves as the smaller, submissive partner.

I can appreciate both, but I prefer submissive partners and smaller subs, though I generally prefer height differences not being so great that penetration or kissing in face to face positions would be impractical.

Searching size_difference penetration -larger_penetrated -smaller_penetrated shows that there are over 73k posts that aren't tagged larger OR smaller penetrated.

Add larger_female to that search ^{(because a female character is obviously (almost) always going to be penetrated)}, and there are 8.5k posts, most will almost inherently involve larger_penetrated. That's not including the many posts involving size difference and penetrative sex that aren't tagged as penetration.

There are likely thousands of untagged larger_penetrated posts involving larger male or gynomorph characters being penetrated too.

I've literally tagged thousands like that but took a break because BURnout (LOL, that term). Yeah, we had stuff like male_cub and anthro_* and so on that often were undertagged, tagged with tags that needed splitting, or outright blatantly obvious incorrect tags. To be fair, tags like larger_male and larger_female are likely only getting tagged at all when it's an explicit image that has sexual content.

I have tagged a lot larger penetrated posts, size_difference penetration -larger_penetrated -smaller_penetrated included wrong tagged size_difference (solo characters that should tagged with growth / character have no obvious size difference ) and simply size different characters being in a post without any penetrating action, in those cases none of the size_penetrated could apply, it’s normal a lot of them aren’t tagged
