Topic: What Are Some Good Furry Novels?

Posted under Off Topic

Wether they be adult content or not, I just want a good furry-content read. Preferably a novel. I've read "Addiction" with the characters Alex and Dustin, but I still have yet to find anything better than that. I've also read some really interesting stuff that doesn't have a lot of sexual content, but those are either unfinished, or never will be.

Also, I'm heterosexual, so my preferences wouldn't exactly gravitate towards any gay stuff. Just a side-not there. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone knew of any good reads out there, wether it be on FA, or any other site where it's free to read.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as furry, but the novel A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron tells the story of a dog who experiences multiple lives, attempting to understand what it means to be a dog our human world. It's narrated from the dog's perspective, so the anthropomorphic element, or the furry element is only in the way the character thinks; otherwise, it's a regular dog. It's a bittersweet story that will make you cry.

And if you're not a dog person, there is the novel Felidae by Akif Pirinçci.
It's a mystery/detective novel about a cat trying to solve a string of murders committed against other cats. It does contain some gore and sexual themes.

Since comics can sometimes feel like novels then i recommend these:

Webcomics and comics:

Dorohedoro - Lizard man in a dystopia magic world want's to reclaim his memories
(not strictly NSFW [or even pornographic for that matter], but it contains gory violence and borderline nudity in some cases)

BLAME! - Supersoldier wandering through ancient earth's superstructure
(not furry and not NSFW, but has violence, it's one of these mangas that you read for experience rather than content)

Solar System by Nature Of Nature's Art - A human with his speaking animal crew has to get back to Earth using an experimental space shuttle after an anomaly occured
(not NSFW at all, but it's one of these long-ass old-internet type of webcomics. Requires a persistend mindset to read some slightly more cluttered-eye-rapey chapters, but the story is really good. One of my favourites, I cried like a little bitch at the ending 😩, so I don't recommending spoiling yourself the ending. If you managed to breeze through first 40 or so chapters then i recommend reading it till the end)

Emancipation - Another story by Nature Of Nature's Art, where a missing-link Ape raised among humans is released into the wild and tries to adapt his physiological view of morality

The Hunters of Salamanstra - A wolfgirl signs up to a monster hunting faction to follow her sister's steps
(NSFW only in terms of violence and gore, somewhat similiar to Berserk. The story is still being written but has over a thousand pages, so it should be enough for a few days of deep dive reading)

The Order of the Black Dog - Collection of stories in a furry world with an lovecraftian corruption vibe
(somewhat NFSW due to gore/violence/corruption, it's main premise of the stories is, as if you fused conspiracy theories with Dead Space and sprinkled it with a demonic/spiritual taste)

Caves and Critters - A somewhat typical furry medieval world with magic
(occasionally contains smut and is still being written, but it's still worth a read in a free time)

Jack - A rabbit has to bear the role of a Grim Reaper after his atrocious acts to humanity
(extremely NSFW, it's one of the most infamous furry comics of the early 2000's internet. Gore, rape, violence, terrorism, religious depraved imagery, you name it - it's propably in there.
The creator caused such an outrage in the past with this webcomic, that he was more or less bullied to take it down, but it's been restored somewhat recently. It has over 2300 chapters and due to slight complexity makes more sense with each reread)

Zandar's Saga - Old English speaking skunk girl got fucked by fate and has to adapt to changing world using magic
(More or less porn with plot, still being written, but it's an ok 1-2 day read i guess)

Katmandu - Collection of stories of a two different races of felines at war
(slightly NSFW, and due to it being old and not feasibly available in all countries, you're more likely to find it online)

Beyond the Western Deep - A newly appointed captain and his squad tries to prevent a war from happening
[A non-NSFW furry mediaval webcomic, it's still being written and doesn't really stand out from different comics of this premise aside from offering a somewhat gray-morality type of plot]

Wurr - A pack of mutated hounds from hell-like place tries to migrate into a world of normal dogs that are hostile towards them
[A cool comic that unfortunately got discontinued, but it still has 269 pages on deviant-art to read]

Evon - A rat warrior and a bear sorceress go on an adventure to learn about their past
[More or less a furry heroic medieval fantasy/drama but it's it's not that bad]

The Skeleton Soldier Failed to Defend The Dungeon - A skeleton loops back in time everytime he dies, and tries to use it to protect those he cares about
[Interesting comic that is still being made. Not really NSFW but it's still worth a read]

Novels:

Ani-droids - A novel by Rick Griffin (also known for Housepets!) about a sci-fi world with Blade Runner type of furry droids

Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi [ campfire cooking in another world with my absurd skill ] - One of my current time-sinks.
It's basically a novel about some random guy, who accidentaly got isekai'd into a fantasy world. His main way of strugling through the world is making food for beasts that he recruits. Has some furry elements.
It also has a 1 season of anime , and a manga in progress. Translated novel is like 5 times ahead of what's in the anime, so i'd recommend watching anime first, then manga, and then novel.

Hereafter - This is basically fanfic of Zootopia, but it's loosely based on the movie, so that you only really should know which character is which.
Sort of like an Angel and Demon story.
There's like a million Zootopia fanfics that are masterpieces when it comes to writing, and this one is one of my favourites. Just give it a shot, maybe you'll like it.

Does Warrior Cats count? I count it as furry.
If not that, there's always Watership Down, and good ol Beastars.

And never did I ever in all of my time spent preaching the word did I imagine I'd encounter another believer..........

It's not furry but I'm not going to argue semantics,

it's not just Solar System, it's one of the greatest stories ever told in any medium,
Zachary Braun has spent over a decade and 7 works to realize a world that is beyond.......

Nature Of Nature's Art is incredible.

Animals exist in a societal structure that we have never perceived (Before the current arc), their science isn't Technology but Art, it's not just that they manifest their Wills through pure Belief, that it's not magic but real,
it's that the oekaki style Brand began with has transformed, through his story telling, his perspectives, HIS WEB DESIGN, all of his craft, into carrying and hurling more weight and value than you'd ever anticipate.

Lycosa is Kill Bill with Kung fu spiders in a junkyard with speech bubbles you have to scroll over to translate (or animate) and it's incredible.
And it's not even 10%+ or Secretary.

But Solar System?

It's not just his personal masterpiece, in the classical sense of an apprentice's proof of mastering their craft.
It validated the entire webcomic medium.

Also Hector is one of the greatest things to ever happen and he's perfect.

C. J. Cherryh has written some really good novels that include feline aliens. Check out "Pride of Chanur"

Anything by Kyell Gold. Not free but it's worth it.
It's mostly gay stuff(I know you said you aren't a huge fan of it but his stuff is amazing)
https://www.kyellgold.com/

My personal favorite is Waterways, a coming of age novel about discovering sexuality. Common trope but it's amazing.
It's light on smut. And is more plot.

Technically it's furry in the sense it has animals... but i recently discovered south scrimshaw. It's a pretty promising part 1 so far, got great world building got great art, and if you're a "bio nerd", you're gonna flip.

The Off the Beaten Path trilogy by Rukis is great. The lead is a woman who was outcast by her tribe for giving birth to a blind child (seen as cursed). She joins two trappers and is on a quest for revenge.
