Topic: (BUR) Blue monochrome tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #5537 is pending approval.

remove alias white_and_blue (0) -> blue_and_white (12543)
remove alias grey_and_blue (0) -> blue_and_grey (32)
remove alias gray_and_blue (0) -> blue_and_grey (32)
remove alias blue_and_gray (0) -> blue_and_grey (32)
remove alias blue_and_black (0) -> black_and_blue (997)
remove implication blue_and_white (12543) -> monochrome (398228)
remove implication blue_and_grey (32) -> monochrome (398228)
change category blue_monochrome (97) -> meta
create implication blue_monochrome (97) -> monochrome (398228)

Reason: I personally think "black_and_[color]", "[color]_and_grey" and "[color]_and_white" tags are all redundant and almost synonyms.
They are all monochrome posts in shades of blue.

Most blue_and_white posts are colored_line_art mistags.
Blue_and_grey is a weirdly vague tag.
Black_and_blue sometimes does not contain any black, just darker shades of blue.

I would prefer if they were all grouped together instead of needlessly diluting eachother.

The changes, in order, just to make the BUR clearer:

    • Make current white/grey/black+blue tags stop implying monochrome, because they will no longer be used

In a different BUR:

I’m only doing blue in this BUR. I’ll wait to see the general reception to this BUR before adding other color monochromes to the topic.

Edit: the invalidations are showing some kind of error message that I do not understand
Edit 2: issue was fixed, thank you wat8548

You can't create aliases in BURs for tags which already have existing aliases or implications. This applies even if you are removing those aliases or implications elsewhere in the same BUR. You need multiple BURs instead.

You also don't need to change the category of aliased tags to invalid, and you probably shouldn't because sometimes the site tries to be clever and copy over the category to the replacement tag.

The bulk update request #5539 has been rejected.

remove alias white_and_blue (0) -> blue_and_white (12543)
remove alias grey_and_blue (0) -> blue_and_grey (32)
remove alias blue_and_black (0) -> black_and_blue (997)

Reason: Removing aliases for current white/grey/black+blue tags

Next BUR:
alias blue_and_white -> blue_monochrome
alias white_and_blue -> blue_monochrome
alias blue_and_grey -> blue_monochrome
alias grey_and_blue -> blue_monochrome
alias blue_and_black -> blue_monochrome
alias black_and_blue -> blue_monochrome

EDIT: The bulk update request #5539 (forum #376421) has been rejected by @DimoretPinel.

black_and_blue does not currently have an implication, so you can't remove it.

The rule about not creating aliases in BURs applies both to tags which are currently aliased to another tag and tags which have other tags aliased to them. To achieve your desired result, you must first undo all the aliases such as white_and_blue -> blue_and_white in the first BUR and then remake them with the new target of blue_monochrome in the second BUR.

By now you might have noticed that BURs are a lot less useful for changing existing tag relationships than they are for creating new ones where none existed before.

Woah, that is weird, because the tag is in the list on the monochrome wiki page. Quite annoying too.

I’ll try to fix the aliases again. Thank you for guiding me through this.

The "Next BUR" still won't work, because blue_and_grey has two more aliases you forgot about. You can move the alias removal commands into the first BUR, you only need two total.
