Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: imminent -> imminent_(disambiguation)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I'm not sure this needs an alias, just a category change. It's an incomplete tag, not something that could validly mean multiple different things by itself.

Could disambiguate and list the various imminent_*. Invalidating would work too, though.

I'm in favour of disambiguating because it indicates there's a better tag that can be used in place of it, rather than it being entirely invalid with no valid replacement.

It'll be invalidated either way, he's suggesting imminent can itself just be moved to the Invalid category as-is without renaming. I can see the argument, since it's an incomplete tag that likely mistyped a space for an underscore, like how red is in the Invalid category without a disambiguation (from mistags like "red fur" or "red eyes", it's unlikely the tagger meant red on its own without realizing it could mean different things), more than an ambiguous tag that has multiple meanings on its own, like club or beast (which are standalone, and that the tagger may not have realized there's more than one meaning to them).

If there was no valid replacement, it would be aliased to invalid_tag.

For example, pullups was disambiguated because there are two entirely different valid tags by that name, and the tagger needs to clarify which they meant. commission was aliased to invalid_tag because we never tag whether something was a commission or not, so the tagger's intentions were incorrect from the start. This tag exists in the middle ground - it's clear the tagger meant to tag something valid, but the tag name by itself has no possible correct meaning.

I don't really care whether it's invalid category or disambiguation, the result is the same. I'll support either the original suggestion or just a plain move to the invalid category.

+1 for moving to the invalid category without adding _(disambiguation)

As far as I remember, the guideline was:
- Disambiguation for tags like pullups or common character names where the same word has multiple different meanings
- Alias to invalid_tag when the tag has no use whatsoever, there's nothing valid to replace it with and it just shouldn't be on this site, like slurs and commission
- Move to the invalid category without disambiguating when it's an unfinished tag like red

This falls under the last category

The bulk update request #5291 is active.

change category imminent (0) -> invalid

Reason: since there is an universal agreement for this tag to be invalid, it should be recategorized. Changing a tag's category won't break the bur, it can be both invalid and aliased to imminent_(disambiguation).

EDIT: The bulk update request #5291 (forum #372116) has been approved by @slyroon.

That resolution works for me, thanks. As long as it's flagged when copying tags from other sites that use spaces instead of underscores, it's good for me and solves the issue I initially wanted this to resolve!

Thanks!
