I'm still hesitant to support characters being tied to single media installments. If they ever appear again within the franchise it's a tagging mess.

do we even need a specific tag for Last Wish? it seems to me like we could just have a puss_in_boots_(series) catch-all tag and then alias puss_in_boots_(film), adventures_of_puss_in_boots, puss_in_boots_the_three_diablos, and puss_in_boots_the_last_wish to that.
are there any character design changes or anything that'd make separate tags necessary?

This is also acceptable, and frankly preferred.

I agree we definitely don't need a tag for each installment in the series. Something like puss_in_boots_(dreamworks) might be better than just puss_in_boots_(series) because of the numerous other Puss in Boots franchises that exist.

Unfortunately puss_in_boots_(dreamworks) is an active Character tag, because of the numerous other Puss in Boots franchises that exist.
Going that route it would have to be _(dreamworks series) or something.

I proposed that in topic #37626, which leaves The Last Wish and the TV series as their own tags. Alias both to puss_in_boots_(dreamworks_series)?

It's probably unlikely to matter but it might need to specify Dreamworks somehow.
Faucet's list includes an instance of one person making two Puss in Boots movies, and it's a public domain character so it's not out of the question for anyone else to make their own, unless we force Dreamworks' to be the default and make anyone else's hypothetical series specify who they are.

Semi-related tangent I'm still against the_bad_guys going straight to Dreamworks when their film is adapted from an existing book series.

I kinda wish the character tag was just puss_in_boots_(shrek) and then puss_in_boots_(dreamworks) would be freed up for as the copyright tag... although those tag names probably aren't great, if you don't know which color is which tag type it'd definitely be confusing.

I'm willing to do puss_in_boots_(character) and then puss_in_boots_(dreamworks) for simplicity. I'd rather avoid roping in the other ones that are extremely less common.

If people continued to tag according to current usage, puss_in_boots_(dreamworks) would continue to be tagged on Shrek-related posts that have Puss but nothing else from his spinoffs.

And then there's the issues for distinguishing Dreamworks Puss from other depictions much as is talked about re: maid_marian (we're just lucky there's only one well-known furry Robin Hood story, but Puss in Boots is inherently a site-relevant character)

I'm not sure of any better way to do it though. Might even be too late if it's already widely in use.

puss_in_boots_(dreamworks_character) and puss_in_boots_(dreamworks_series)

wold just _(series) not be enough? the original fairy tale is a single short story and I'm looking at Wikipedia's list of adaptations and not seeing any other series that uses the simply "Puss in Boots" as the title. the only thing close is a single 26-episode anime called "Adventures of Puss-in-Boots"/"Puss 'n Boots".

That feels excessive to me. Especially since like no one is using, or is ever likely going to use, the other ones.
