Topic: Tag Implication: guitar -> musical_instrument

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I'm not sure of a reason to implicate any of them, but that's just me.

However, if something like shamisen manages to get on there, I'm throwing in didgeridoo here as well because they are definitely at least  slightly  cooler.

Edit: bass_drum has 1 post, snare_drum has 2 posts...why not just alias them to the much more used drums (57 posts) instead?

Because there are Band Geeks out there too, as well as Gun Freaks, Plane Nerds, etc etc :P I try to recognize my biases like this and keep them in check, but not everyone does, so we end up with super specific tags that get used once or twice even though they're technically correct and stuff.

But yes, you may want to make another thread about it, but I'd +2 aliasing those to drums.

Orch Dork reporting in.
When someone mistags a bass as a cello or the other way around I get so mad I pop a boner.
Not really but srs guys, use your noggins.

I'll do that now, actually.

Orch- is also a prefix that means "testicles" (eg, orchitis), and that makes the phrase "orch dork" extra funny to me.

Meh. I forgot that I've already suggested this, and tried to submit it again...

Here's couple of other instruments that aren't implicated yet: bass_guitar and banjo.

And drum, drums, drum_set and drum_kit tags need to be sorted out. Dunno if we need separate tag for a full set, but some of those could certainly be aliased.

Definitely not. Though we could probably imply bongo_drum since that's fairly distinct.

Alright, I think I got it all, as well as most of forum #145796 which heavily overlapped with this.

But on this thread, I implicated:
guitar to --> musical_instrument
didgeridoo to --> musical_instrument
bass_guitar to --> musical_instrument
electric_guitar to --> musical_instrument
banjo to --> musical_instrument
theremin to --> musical_instrument because it is one, and no one is ever going to know we have the tag otherwise because it's so obscure
cymbals to --> musical_instrument

And aliased:
tamborine to --> tambourine because it's commonly misspelled that way.

----

For the drum stuff (which includes forum #145796), I aliased:
drums to --> drum
snare_drum to --> drum
bass_drum to --> drum (with only two or so images under each of these, there didn't some much point in keeping these two tags separate)
drum_kit to --> drum_set

And then implicated:
bongo_drum to --> drum (because it is a fairly distinct type of drum)
drum_set to --> drum because the stand with all of the drums and cymbals attached is very distinctive, well recognised, and very different from a single portable drum hanging from a shoulder strap, or propped between someone's feet.
drum to --> musical_instrument

The alias of drumsticks to --> drumstick from forum #145796 was denied, because a breaded and baked chicken leg and a set of two wooden sticks have nothing in common, and the usage seems to be keeping it distinct even if the names are similar.

Why are snare drums and bass drums aliased to drum?

with only two or so images under each of these, there didn't some much point in keeping these two tags separate

By that logic, there'd be no new tags for anything ever, aside from mass renaming or whatever. Because new tags happen by being tagged on a new post

Not every single thing can be/is discussed on the forums, you know

That's a good point. I'm no percussion nerd, but I'd guess that those are probably under-tagged...

If people cared enough, there would be more tagged already. A tag like purple_pussy can spout up organically without ever being implied to pussy because people care enough to have tagged that. Considering there have been all of 3 posts combined that have ever had either tag, I don't think people really care enough to make the distinction.

I should mention that I'm not implying (or suggesting) we have to keep the alias.
