Yes, you should still be able to edit posts, upload, source etc like normal users can. You shouldn't lose any abilities or tools, and you should retain/gain access to everything priv+ basically (so all non-staff tools). This was referring to how the additional staff abilities for post approval/rejection/flag-handling would mainly be given to Janitors, and the additional staff abilities for tickets/records/bans would mainly be given to Moderators.

This is because both Moderators and Janitors are a specialized version of staff, with an area of focus and the extra staff abilities needed for just that area of staff tasks. For example, when a Janitor finds something that needs to be deleted because it broke the rules, that Janitor can handle the deletion part themselves, but they then hand over the necessary information to the tickets, where someone who has the Moderator or Admin role can handle the other half of punishing the user for the broken rule (like posting paid content, dnp/cdnp, RL porn or other outright forbidden content). So neither role is expected to be able to handle everything, but they are given the tools and training for the part that they do oversee.

While Admins can do some of everything, depending on where they are needed.

Just in case anyone is left wondering, for anyone who indicated an interest in both Moderator and Janitor positions: that would eventually be discussed on a case by case basis between them and us, to decide where they might be best suited. So no worries about that and indicating an interest in both positions is fine.

Ah, thanks for the info. Yeah, I figured mods would still have the standard general options but wanted to double-check. Also, I hadn't considered the two positions interacting like that, but it's logical. If someone breaks CoC with an upload it would fall under a mod's responsibilities for actioning, not the janitor.

The reference code is in there. It's not really hidden.

I'm going to be honest and say if someone can't see the clearly-marked reference code which is literally pointed out as the reference code you should have going into the application, I'd be hesitant to trust them handling tickets, which is the whole point, I'm sure. Weed out the applicants who miss something so simple.

So my question is, that is it too bad that my account is literally empty? Xd. I've been here for many years now and I would gladly accept a position as a Janitor, but only made an account recently. I haven't filled out the form yet, because of this. Because I feel like that I'm filling out the form as a ghost, with no history to check, no comments, and everything.

Good question.
You certainly wouldn't be the first one to apply for a staff position with an empty account.

We have plenty of candidates with a lot of experience on the site.
It should be fairly obvious that folks with thousands of uploads and tens of thousands of tag edits would be at the front of the list for potential janitors, since they clearly know what they are doing.
If you do not have that, then your application would need to be extremely impressive in order to be considered, especially in regards to the prior experience.

Yeah I feared so. Thanks for the reply.

Why is the, "are you 18+" question even there? I feel like that's the most pointless question ever.

They'll probably ask for ID

Just a reminder that we will continue to accept applications until Monday.
If you are interested in being a part of e621's staff team, and you have not applied yet, then this is the time to do so.

are we allowed to resubmit applications until the deadline?

while i did think hard on mine and knew what i wanted to say, i do feel like i didn't quite interpret some of the questions quite right (namely in checking both janitor and mod i meant that as in "i'd be fine with either-or" and not "i want both of these positions at the same time")

Yes, but alas the deadline is here already.
Don't worry, you interpreted that question correctly. It's either / or, we are not going to make you do both at the same time.

Just curious, if someone were to sign up for both (and are eligible), would they be a Janitor, a Moderator, or somewhere in between?

Access to the moderation tools requires the Moderator rank, while the Janitor role only grants a few little things (which moderators inherit, due to technically outranking janitors) but the power to actually handle posts entirely comes from the approve posts permission flag that they're granted. Even admins require the approve posts permission, it's not even inherent with their role.

So if for some reason somebody was granted both permissions, they would be a moderator with the approve posts permission flag.

This is kind of a strange question.

Applications aren't handled by robots. If we discuss it and agree that you would be a good fit, we'll ask you what you would rather do.
It's going to be one or the other, not both. If you end up being not comfortable in the role you chose, you can try out the other one too.

We are probably not going to have too many moderators with approval permissions, since it's just going to end up being an "admin-lite" position.

bitwolfy
Just everything.

Wow... This was a crazy week. I think that we all can agree that this is an exciting time to be here on e621.

To every one who submitted an application form, I just want to congratulate you on being so forth coming. It's not always easy putting yourself out there. And I sincerely hope that if and when the time comes, you'd truly be willing to do your best. And although we are all competing for the same thing, I'd just like to wish everyone, good luck.

To everyone who didn't submit. Don't feel bad for not pitching in. There is no shame in recognizing that you are not the right fit. Whether it's understanding that you already have a full plate and can't take on any more work. Or knowing that the stresses involved would be bad for your mental health. Moderating is not for those thin of skin or quick of temper. There's no shame in taking care of yourself. You only have one life to live. Make it a good one.

And lastly. To bitwolfy and all of the other staff members. Thank you for setting all of this up, and for giving us this great opportunity. I can't thank you enough for all of the hard work that you have done. Thank you for being so active in this forum. From answering all of our questions, clearing up any misunderstandings, to just being an all around cool dude. So sincerely, Thanks.

It gives kiddos an potentially easy way to unknowingly out themselves.

I went a little further in a similar situation.
Although I have absolutely no pornography on my wiki site with multilingual translations of furry webcomics, but sometimes there are demonstrations of fluffy boobs and all that, and in my Russia there are deputies who even that can get very excited, so I decided, just in case, to make a system of allowing content after a real age check.

I read on an Internet meme site about math analysis captcha that it's a good tool not only for kids, but also for humanitarians with a delicate mental structure. The co-workers helped me a bit with choosing a library for displaying the integral and calculating the results, as well as saving backup copies of the account file. But I made my own code simplification, description of exceptions, internationalization of the interface into 20 languages, setting the level of complexity of the integral, embedding the form in the site and describing the order of action on the part of the user.

By the way, a system with a three-term integral proved to be a very serious obstacle, so I reduced the integral to one term. About half of the accounts can pass this test, which I think is a sufficient level. Of course, children experienced in Internet services know where to find the answer to the problem with the integral, but I reassure myself that fluffy boobs won't scare them anymore. I think they are already entitled to it :D

As a current moderator of an 18+ discord, the number of children that respond with their actual age is surprising. We just had someone who said "17 turning 18 in August" (paraphrasing), who we immediately banned. Children are ridiculously stupid.

Did you unban him on his 18th birthday? ;)

Dang it! I wanted to help πŸ€–β€πŸ—ΏπŸ€“

I wanted to be a janitor and manage tags and stuff. I read all the terms of service and things like that but I was a little late. Maybe in the future.

I dont know how I missed this before it closed. Darn shame. Good luck to whoever makes it in though.

While e621 is officially an art archive for furry art of all types. No one can deny that a large amount of that art is of a phonographic nature. As a result I believe e621 would get legal hot water if they knowingly let anyone under age (or in this case, of unknown age) work for there site. Hence the safe guard question.

There's probably way more on the line if underaged people are recruited as volunteers to handle porn than if they hide or lie about their age and end up watching porn.
