It seems to be quite a common typo to warrant this alias.

I think it was just the result of a cascade effect. One person unluckily fatfingered a second H when entering the tag to a post, and then with that appearing in the suggestion box for others who mistakenly enter "smarth" (mixing up the order of the P and H", they quickly select it, assuming that it is spelled correctly since it appeared in the suggestion box. Now that the tag will no longer appear as a suggestion, people will not mistakenly select it anymore.

If enough people are mistyping "smarth" in the first place, might as well nip this in the bud before this can ever be a problem again. The site's no stranger to aliasing away typos.

The chance of another cascade happening to this tag, in this exact way, is astronomical. The only way it could begin again is if somebody again makes an identical typo and somehow doesn't notice that the newly-added tag is red.

If it happened once, it can happen again. Doesn't seem that unlikely to me.

Besides, not like it takes much effort to alias away a tag in the first place. There's no harm to doing it in the first place; not sure why you're so opposed to it.

It's a lightning-striking-in-the-same-place-twice deal. Also, I don't oppose it, it just seems pointless.
