Same as with UTAU, Vocaloid is a singing voice synthesizer software product, it's not a group or some company. It's simply a program used to synthesize a voice for singing, which those characters happen to use in their official performances. But images of them won't have their voice, or necessarily have anything to do with the software. It would be better for them to implicate the company that owns them (if any), rather than a voice synth program that's not even used in the majority of posts with them.

Reason: I personally think the VOCALOIDs should imply both VOCALOID and the parent company, so here's a BUR for the latter.

I had a better updated BUR for this in another thread. No, the original BUR isn't a good way to categorize the characters because many of these characters aren't exclusively VOCALOID.

No, Vocaloid was the software the creators used to use for their vocal performances, but they've since switched to various other options and largely don't use Vocaloid anymore. It'd be like having a character imply Blender because that's what their creator originally made their official renders with, even if the creator had later switched to a different modeling/render software for the character.

Maybe if the characters were a kind of official mascot for the product, but it doesn't seem they were.

No, they're not. Hatsune Miku and friends in particular haven't been on the VOCALOID software in 5 years.
