For future reference, you should use the alias or implication tools. They ensure that your topic (probably) won't get lost and they provide a template.

As for the alias itself, I don't know whether it should be hmmwv or humvee.

I'd almost be for using high_mobility_multipurpose_wheeled_vehicle just because it's obnoxiously long and formal.

I mean, I'm familiar with the things and I had to do a double-take when I read that. It's not the commonly-used term at all. Normally I'd be against the use of an acronym or nickname, but in this particular case, I feel differently.

I've only heard of the term humvee, and I assumed it was just a nickname for a hummer. I had to google it to find out I was wrong. :/

They're big, slow, gas guzzlers, and they don't even have remote-controlled heavy machine guns and missile launchers!

As they have diesel engines, they are not 'gas guzzlers', yet I cede your point; although they have been softened up considerably compared to their mil-spec brethren, they still weigh in roughly around space shuttle tonnage.

HMMWV as calling them a Hummer on this site may lead to some confused searchers ...

I'm for humvee. I wouldn't recognize what HMMWV tag on an image meant even after having seen this forum thread.

...
Isn't that same as hummer? No?

Sigh. I'd better leave tagging vehicles to others.
