Reason: A cupcake is a small cake, the food implication will then be redundant since it will be implied by cake.
IIRC they were kept separate to improve searchability.
When I type cake, I want to see π/π° and not π§.

Not particularly convincing. Cupcakes are cakes, and if you don't want to see 'em, just put in -cupcake.

Pancakes are a type of cake, should we imply them to cake as well?

They... are? For real or just because that's in the name?
English can be fucky once and while.
If an image has a female we dont imply male.
Sounds like the discussion in portuguese of wether to call cracker-like-food "biscuit or cookie?"

Eh, we're already implying cheesecake to cake and that's even less of a cake than a cupcake is.
As strange as it may sound for some people, cupcakes are in fact cakes. When baking them, they require almost the same ingredients as that for an ordinary cake. The only difference is that a cupcake is much smaller than your βstandardβ-sized cake. For that reason, Iβm giving this BUR a thumbs-up.
If you donβt want to see cupcakes, just type -cupcake in the search bar. If you really donβt want to see them (like at all), just blacklist the tag.
That does brings another question. Should muffin imply bread? Technically speaking, a muffin is categorized as such (a quick bread to be exact).

So are banana bread, pancakes, mooncakes, Twinkies and Sno Balls. Heck, let's just toss everything in if it is considered a type of cake.

Cupcakes are literally just small conventional cakes, though. Unlike pancakes, cupcakes are baked, just like regular cakes.
