create implication peryton (252) -> deer (80525)
create implication peryton (252) -> chimera (9286)
create implication peryton (252) -> wings (410747)

Reason: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peryton

A Peryton is to a deer what a Pegasus is to a horse, essentially its a deer with wings. Typically they have feathered wings, but mostly a deer body. I'm unsure if avian should also be implicated because of the feathered wings, but I guess that should be discussed.

Also, browsing the peryton tag real quick before making this BUR, I saw that in a few images the characters didn't have wings, so should I change their species tag to deer/cervid? If so, and if having feathered wings is a core part of the species, maybe it too should be added to the BUR.

Since a peryton is specifically a winged deer or a deer with the wings and hind end of a bird, TWYS would require any "wingless peryton" to be properly retagged as a regular deer.

However, although feathered wings are the baseline standard for the original peryton, it's certainly likely that some artist may prefer to depict them with bat wings as the artist may figure mooshing together two mammals more likely than a mammal and a bird.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but for a few of them they have other aspects about them that I think would make hybrid/chimera apply, such as paws instead of hooves. I'll have to go through later.

And great point about the bat wings! I'll leave the feathered part out, but I do think wings in general should be implied, so I'll go ahead and add them.

I'm not sure if species like perytons and pegasi fit the definition of a chimera very well. Would any mythological being that can be described as "(normally wingless animal) with wings" deserve an implication as well?

Don't most mythological chimeras have more than two components? For example, minotaur doesn't imply chimera either.

I can't say I'd have the answer for that, but I know if I was searching for chimeras, any winged animal is not what I'd be looking for. Personally, if things like pegasi implied chimera, I'd hope it'd at least be indirectly. Something more like: pegasus -> some_tag_to_describe_winged_animals -> chimera.

Honestly, there probably could be a tag for that, anyways, with how common that sort of thing is, regardless of any relation to chimera, I just wouldn't know what to call it, or if anyone else would find any value in that.

Perhaps hybrid was the better tag to imply to, but at the very least the other two tags should be implied (deer and wings)

The wiki of chimera should be updated to reflect that more than two distinct animals should be present. One example currently in the wiki is a fox with wings, which isn't much different than a deer with wings, which is why I suggested the implication.

From the wiki: "This tag is used for any sort of "mixed beast," where the body is distinctly made up of parts from a number of different animals.

For example, a wolf with a shark tail and fin. A crocodile with hooves. A fox with wings."

Not so sure about the implication to wings either. The species tag is a lot less tyws than the general category, the species might be tagged even when the wings aren't visible.

Though it seems there are 7 species tags implicating wings

I'm gonna say no. Furthermore there are posts like this one tagged with "wings" where there are no wings visible.

post #4655644

All because Pegasus is tagged. These species tags that are implying wings should be unimplicated.
