Topic: [APPROVED] gamefreak unaliasing

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #3376 is active.

remove alias gamefreak (0) -> video_games (0)
remove alias game_freak (1745) -> video_games (0)

Reason: if anything, a company shouldn't be aliased to a general thing.
but now what to do with this tag.

Part 2

alias game_freak -> gamefreak
category gamefreak -> copyright
imply pokemon -> gamefreak

EDIT: The bulk update request #3376 (forum #346578) has been approved by @gattonero2001.

I'd presume alias one to the other, make the survivor a copyright tag, and then implicate all the games the company has produced to the tag.

Well, dealiasing it from video_games is good regardless. However, I'm curious how relevant their non-Pokemon games are. Outside of Pokemon (which we don't tag individual games for), none of their games have been particularly noteworthy. My main concern would be people manually tagging GameFreak on various random Pokemon images, as people already do with creatures_(company). If all the tag does is return a small set of random Pokemon images, what's the point of it?

I don't think having pokemon imply gamefreak is a good idea, since not all pokemon stuff is developed by GameFreak. E.g. Pokemon Go and Pokemon Unite aren't developed or published by GameFreak, nor does GameFreak make the plushies or other merch. Really, it shouldn't imply Nintendo either, since Nintendo isn't directly involved with all Pokemon-related things (I remember after the initial success of Pokemon Go, Nintendo's stocks skyrocketed because everyone thought they were involved, and they were legally obligated to put out a statement saying Pokemon Go wasn't them, which caused their stocks to drop back down). Pokemon is owned and controlled by The Pokemon Company, of which Nintendo and GameFreak currently have a controlling interest but they're still separate in a legal sense.

that is a fair point, since at this point, gamefreak is synonymous with pokemon

I wouldn't count them out just yet, they still put out a non-Pokemon game from time to time.

would it be controversial to have pokemon not imply nintendo, and instead a new tag The_Pokemon_Company...? that definitely isnt gonna cause so many issues

That would be synonymous with the existing pokemon tag. Unlike Game Freak, there is no danger of The Pokémon Company ever putting out a single product unrelated to Pokémon, nor of a single (official) Pokémon product that is unrelated to TPC.

Incidentally, there is currently one post tagged drill_dozer. But good luck figuring out if the tag is even relevant...

EDIT: There is also one tagged mendel_palace, the artist of which is ken_sugimori himself.
