Could I ask why this has been rejected?

I wanted to approve these, but they lost in the admin vote. The enforcement of a tagging distinction between cyan and blue is not considered to be worth the effort due to the failure of past attempts at doing so.

Would implicating cyan_* --> blue_* be a good compromise?

Cyan isn't always blue, it's sometimes more green than blue, making that invalid.

Then, why is it aliased to blue_*? Wouldn't an invalidation be more appropriate since they can be "sometimes more green than blue"?

Also, I was under the impression that the more "green" version would be teal_* (which in turn is also aliased to green_*).

Because more often than not, it's close enough to blue for the alias to work. It's easier to fix when it's mistakenly replaced by blue when it's closer to green, than it would be to continually clean up all its disambiguations (fix up 100% uses of cyan, or only about 20% of uses?), and it's easy to fix when seen to be wrong.

Cyan is a 50/50 mix of blue and green. So it has as many bluer shades as greener shades. Color is complicated, as our brains get tricked often about what color a thing actually is, but we humans like to categorize things. Not all colors are equal, though; some colors are hierarchical (e.g. burgundy being a more specific red), some colors have overlap (which we've tried to subdivide and get ever-more-specific names to separate them, while e6 has an arbitrary collection of colors, some more specific than others), and the particular color we perceive is influenced by how a particular person learned colors (which is partly why people think of cyan as a shade of blue, despite it being as much blue as yellow is red).

Color theory is a rabbit hole and a half (e.g. some languages have 0 distinction between "green" and "blue"). Any line that the site draws is going to be subjective no matter how many or how few categories we use. With that said, I'd like to comment on one line in particular.

Cyan and blue seem pretty dang close to me. Yellow and red have orange between them, but blue and cyan border each other.

If you divide it up between R, G, and B, then yellow is equal mix Red and Green, as cyan is equal mix Green and Blue. Sure you can subdivide it and add even more specific colors between them, like orange (though as noted before, English didn't originally have a name for the color orange; it was called a reddish-yellow, until people started calling it 'the color of a ripened orange', then eventually just 'orange', which shows how arbitrary color definitions can be), but the more specific you get the harder it is to pin down what color to tag (and creating an implication hierarchy would create a mess of tags on posts, which wouldn't help cyan anyway as it's trying to fit in as a primary shade beside green and blue). There is no hard "border" between colors, it's a continuous scale. At best, you have the scientifically-defined wavelengths of light corresponding to a small set of colors like that chart, but e6 uses much more colors than that, plenty of which aren't and can't be defined scientifically (like brown, as it depends on the surrounding brightness as perceived by a viewer). Not to mention it also depends on a user's display, which can have a dramatic effect on perceived color, causing white to appear yellow, or blue to appear gray or gray to appear blue, etc.

Question. Since cyan is a controversial color in terms of color terms (classified as a mix of green and blue in English, has a different term in Russian and Italian, green and blue are the same in East Asian languages), where does magenta go?

Is magenta red, purple, pink, or its own color?
